Ouch that hurts to look at. I once had a fire in my camaro when my turbo oil line popped off and sprayed the engine with oil. Fortunately I had a small extinguisher in the glove box which put out the flames.

Thanks guys. I'm glad that I walked away unscathed. And yes , after I am done with all the insurance nonsense I will try to get the car back and will be selling what's left. Motor and trans should be unharmed.

That's tough to look at knowing all the work you put into it. I hope you didn't lose anything that can't be replaced.

I'm genuinely upset to see this. From your last post, it sounds like you had full coverage though?
Yikes, man. Thankfully you aren't hurt though, that remains to be the only saving grace.

i had plans to bolt a little fire extinguisher to the roll cage when i got one...never got around to doing it... and that day i just got my new poly torque arm bushing and ordered my cat back 2 hours before..i pass by the spot on my way to and from work and see the burnt remnants and speedy dry on the street where it happened.. i still really cant believe that it happened..idk what to do or how to handle it. it really does suck. im very thankful to be unharmed and very very very thankful that my girlfriend wasnt still in the car when it happened...thank you guys for everything and all the help..this is a great forum and maybe one day ill be able to get another f body.
but yes i did have full coverage..theyre taking the car tuesday to do an investigation for the insurance..they said if its anything mechanical then its not covered.. i hope it all works out ok. im pretty sure i have an idea of what caused it to happen..

What causes fires that isn't mechanical besides an accident? They told you that? You should probably read your policy asap.

A little follow up. Below is a response from a friend of mine who does auto investigations for a living. I don't have as much experience in P&C as I do in other lines of insurance. I didn't remember arson/fraud/vandalism was another avenue. I was thinking collision vs comp and was lumping all comp together (fuel, electrical , etc.) and naturally didn't think arson/fraud as I knew the event was during driving. She agreed you need to review your actual policy language if they try to deny.
The part of the insurance that covers fire is comprehensive and to my knowledge, this shouldn't have exclusions unless it's incendiary on the part of the insured or they're complicit within the act.
He needs to ask about the specific exclusions and read his policy as fire is fire (open flame with resulting char, not soot). In my job, I try to ascertain origin and then the cause. Their investigator needs to have a good background in automobiles, not just structures, as investigating a fire for one is quite different than the other.
Was he driving the T/A, just parked it, or had the car been sitting a while before the fire started? If he was driving it, the cause could be fuel, electrical, or mechanical (lubricants, friction from heat, brake fluid, coolant and yes, this can ignite given the right circumstances). If he'd just parked it and a minute later it caught fire, you can rule out fuel but the other two (especially mechanical from oil igniting on the exhaust x-over pipe) are a cause. If the car was sitting and caught fire several hours after being parked, then electrical only. These causes do not include incendiary, i.e. arson.
A collision can also cause fire from any of the above as well.

are there $200 in undamaged parts on that thing anyone will buy? don't bring it in the garage, your garage will stick of burnt car for years.
to a person that knows parts demands and market values, anything can be worth parting. to the average joe, prob not.
