So, the officials are back :D
They got a nice raise from 140k to 205k a year. I'd say sign me up, but...

If you don't get that ^, then don't post in this thread.
Let's see how tonight's Browns-Ravens game goes. I'm obviously expecting the Browns to lose, but it's a 12.5 point spread, and I think the Browns have "hung in there" enough with 'good-enough' teams these last three weeks to warrant more credit than that.
Pictures, banter, news, discussion; If it pertains to the NFL, put it in here.

I was just about to pots this.
Back from commercial, and glad he's moving. He really got f'd up; Neck snap, head whacked against ground, and cleat spikes to bare face. Can't believe that he's OK...
The hit on Hayward-bey was worse. This is the hardest LEGAL hit you will see for a while

I only watched the 1st quarter, but I saw that Cribbs hit. I'm surprised he wasn't stretchered out like Heyward-Bey.
Browns covered and lost by a pick 6 I hear?

Jersey Mike

I stopped watching that game around half-time, but I think there's a lot wrong with that team this season.
They can't put points up on the board. ("Thank you, Captain Obvious...") What I mean is, It's week 4 and you still lack chemistry--The game against the Bills was a fluke. I've *yet* to see the Jets' offense put together a solid drive in the last 3 weeks. It's time to change things up; Steer away from the Wildcat. Have Tebow throw the ball some, and actually look like a "dual threat" as opposed to just bringing him in for 2 yard gains on the ground every other drive. To make matters worse, Ryan has seemed distracted these passed few weeks. I don't know what's wrong with Sanchez, maybe the Tebow drama from pre-season and all that QB drama has made an impact on him? No idea. Where's Dustin Keller? He was crucial to the short-pass game, and no one has really stepped up to fill his shoes after his injury, but even when he has played, he's been pussyfooting it. This team needs more than inspiration, it needs a running game, it needs to find the happy middle ground in it's QB situation, and it needs a head coach that is more focused on game tape and his players than Zumba workout vids and his Atkins diet.
Their record (like many others' in the NFL this season) is deceiving.
Ughhh why does Sanchez have to suck so bad
He's ALWAYS sucked. A solid shut down defense and a good running game has disguised that for the last couple of years. Things were good when they had the tommy jones and leon washington 1-2 punch and kris jenkins at DT to crush the middle.
At this point they don't have a single top tier skill player healthy. This season is going to keep going south
(There would have been more production from Dustin Keller had he been in the game. Keller and Hill were both out. Even with them though Sanchez is still a joke)

Chicago at Dallas tonight. Dallas is favored by 3.5, and I heard WFAN say that Forte wasn't going to play tonight, but I can't duplicate that answer online yet.
What do you guys think going into this game? Dallas gonna cover?
I have ESPN in the next room as I'm doing paperwork, I'm pretty sure i just heard that forte is a game-time decision.
I think Dallas can cover if 1 or more of these 3 things happens. Demarcus Ware dominates, the Dallas passing game finally starts playing to potential or Cutler has another melt down. (Cutler is such a big diva he makes some star wideouts look humble)

On the one hand, what has Dallas done these last few weeks? Yeah, they beat the Giants, but meh. They got raped by Seattle--who really isn't that great of a team, despite their GB game--and didn't do much more than kick some field goals against Tampa Bay. While Schiano's done well for that team, and made them into a contender (one of the stronger 1-3 teams in the league right now, IMO), the win against them wasn't very inspiring.
It really is a difficult road ahead for Dallas--Ravens, Panthers, Giants, Falcons, Eagles.

You have DeMarco Murray in fantasy, don't you?
I have Jason Witten, and that's it. My opponent (3-0) has Forte & Chicago's Defense... and is trailing me by 33.5 points at the moment :D
I had initially picked DaBears +3.5, but I just changed my mind and am going to side with Dallas. They are a strong team, and I think they've had a few "off' games, and this week they're going to click and will show us some great offense.
Hopefully, Forte sits and Cutler ****s. I'm a Dallas fan, anyway, so there's less of an internal conflict when watching the game this way
Dallas' saving grace us that its a home game
i just hope there's more offense than last nights game... what a snoozer

I'm happy with last nights result for many reasons. Dallas lost, Romo was benched, Dez dropped half the balls thrown to him and there will be a new coach in Dallas before this year is over.
Sorry Justin, that was a close game man.

Replacement refs tell 'Inside the NFL' they were told not to call pass interference on Hail Marys
By Josh Katzowitz | Blogger

WFWb0kTqruU
You know, of course, about the Monday Night Football game from two weeks ago that gave the Seahawks a win they shouldn't have and set up the replacement officials from an unceremoniously exit from the NFL.
But here's what you don't know about the Hail Mary that Russell Wilson threw to Golden Tate, who supposedly had a simultaneous catch with Green Bay safety M.D. Jennings after pushing off on Sam Shields: two replacement referees told Showtime's Inside the NFL that they were told not to call pass interference penalties on Hail Marys.
“(For) the deep officials, it was brought up that you don't really call interference on a Hail Mary…,” said Wayne Elliott, who was the head referee for that infamous Packers-Seahawks game. “The deep officials were trained that during a Hail Mary, there's a lot of bodies in there and you just let it go.”
Co-host Cris Collinsworth responded by saying, “Whoa! Really?”
“Which is a philosophy in college too,” said Jim Core, another replacement official. “Those Hail Marys, you don't want to say all bets are off, but for the most part you let the players decide.”
Previously, Elliott had defended himself, and on the show Wednesday, he also talked about his experiences following the Green Bay-Seattle game when he received a call at home from Packers coach Mike McCarthy.
“He had heard I was having a rough week with all the calls and everything… He wanted me to know he thought that what I did, controversial and maybe he didn't agree with it, that I handled it with class," said Elliott, who also described the postgame officals locker room which he said was as quiet as a losing locker room.
Elliott said for the 72 hours after the Monday night call, his phone didn't stop ringing and that many of them came from Wisconsin. He wasn't sure how his cell number got out to the masses so quickly.
“The gist of them was I should go off somewhere and die or I should commit suicide," Elliott said. "My reaction was to listen to them, laugh at them and delete them. Nobody actually offered to pull the trigger, so nothing was really threatening.”
Either way, both knew that by signing on to be a replacement official, that would effectively end their advancement as full-time college officials.
“That was the debate on whether I was going to want to give this up,” Core said. “The college commissioners, the college football officiating is controlled by the NFL referees. So we knew crossing the line was going to end the college career.”
Core said his worst run-in with a head coach was with Tampa Bay's Greg Schiano.
“He's college," Core said. "The rest of them acted at a different level. You could just tell working with them they were at a different level that I felt like he was."
Elliott also described a pleasant conversation he had with smiley Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
"I had Jay Cutler, when we did not reset the game clock for him after a discussion about a penalty enforcement, call me a M-F-ing replacement ref. 'Just because you are a M-F-ing replacement ref, you've got to know the f-ing rules,'" Elliott said. "And three minutes later during a timeout, I'm standing next to him and he's got some water and he said, 'You want some water?' And I said, 'Yes, even though I'm a M-F-ing replacement ref, I'll drink your water.' And he said, 'It's all I could say to get your attention.'
Interestingly, both officials said they had positive experiences and both would do the same thing again if given the opportunity.
UPDATE: Here's NFL spokesman Greg Aiello's statement on the matter of pass interference calls on Hail Marys.
"Officials have long been instructed not to call pass interference on 'Hail Mary,' jump ball plays (at end of halves or end of game) unless it is blatant as it was in the Seattle-Green Bay game. Offensive pass interference should have been called on that play. It was more than incidental bumping and jostling."

I watched this one all the way to the end.
With 0:43 left in the game, I was about ripping my hair out. I can't even imagine all the reactions and all the bets that changed as a result of that call.
The spread was San Fran -7.5, and they were up by 7 points, ball in Seattle's possession on their own 4 or 5 yard line, on 4th & 17. Two flags on the play, one of which being a safety, and the 1st down is under review. For those 2 minutes where they were reviewing the play, I was ****ting bricks to see if the Safety penalty would be tacked on or not.
I'm still not sure why Harbaugh rejected the 2 points for the Safety, and didn't want to make it a 9 point game and get the ball back, but it worked out for me!
Jersey Mike
10-24-2012, 09:04 AM
How do you guys feel about the Harbough safety call? I know $75M changed hands in Vegas as a result of that move. It worked out for me, as I had the Seahawks+7.5, but from a football standpoint, why wouldn't you make it a 2 possession game?
Tampa Bay & Mini tomorrow. I like what Schiano's been doing for that team, and it's a shame they didn't beat the Saints last week with those 2 game-winning TDs that were brought back, but I don't think it's enough to take down Minnesota at home tomorrow night.
Tampa +6.5

It's not the official's fault; It's Jim Schwartz's. After last week's Challenge Flag issue in another game, the Challenge rules were discussed a **** ton all around the media Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. I think WFAN spent half of their show on Tuesday talking about. He's the head coach, and should know the rules, emotions aside. It matters little to me though, as Houston didn't cover the 3.5 point spread :(
As for the Cowboys, they need help, but that 4th quarter was something. Besides, it's only right that the Redskins won today... It's Thanksgiving after all, let's throw the Native Americans a bone.

How great is it to be Greg McElroy right now? The stars align with Tim Tebow being inactive and like 50 Mark Sanchez interceptions to allow you to start your career. The bar was set so incredibly low there was basically zero expectations. As long as he didn’t come into today’s game and shove his head up an offensive lineman’s ******* he was good to go. He steps in, leads one TD drive, wins the ball game, and it’s like he’s the Messiah.

Two things:
I'm not sure if Dez Bryant should be playing this week, but do understand the division title spot & playoff-berth are on the line. Well I guess if Romo can play through a punctured lung, and Witten can play through a lacerated spleen, why the hell not, right? I hope this doesn't backfire. Those balls come through the air at 40mph, or even jamming it during a bump-and-run, or landing on it when going to the ground, could result in some serious bad news bears for Dez.
As for Philadelphia, it's clear the problem isn't Vick. We're all expecting Andy to leave, but I'm not sure what to speculate about Mike Vick's fate. Someone mentioned a Sanchez-Vick trade on the radio the other day, but that just seems like a lateral move for everyone involved. Maybe Phllly & the Jets should both just clean house
