Since I had a big oops with a camshaft while drilling I figured I'd make good use of it. So I cut it up since it was jammed anyway with a snapped bit and made a mini cam lamp.
I figured it could be good for guys who dont have room for a full size or someone who just wants something for their desk at work or something.
It uses a candelabra base and a little black shade. No pull chain for this one, just a little cord switch. I want to find a small gear for it, but for now heres a shot. The cam was cut down to around 6 inches, the base is 6 inches (black pine). Any thoughts/input is greatly appreciated of course!!
Also dont forget to check my lamp page on facebook- https://www.facebook.com/pages/SG-Camshaft-Lamps/289707274466702

No these will be about half the price of the big one. I have enough parts to start building these too if you are interested. Shoot me a PM. I wasnt sure how this would go over so for now I built just this one but I can have another one done tomorrow night or the following morning, have to make some small bases like the one in the picture.

This. I'll have to see it in person to make up my mind on the shade/base chemistry, but it definitely was cool to open this thread up and see that.

Im thinking around $45-$55 but it can change once things get added like gears abd stuff. What would you like to see added for options?

like how much for the a black base and shade with or w/o gear and is there any way you can use something like a little switch in the base as an on off?

I can build it that way sure. the one pictured was my first mini lamp build and i used one of the cord switches. where its mounted to the cord itself with a little wheel to click on/off. I just got my parts delivery today so before all the big ones are assembled and shipped i can test fit it with a gear and take some pictures

rickyd13, i ended up putting a mini together yesterday for jersey mike with the timing sprocket on the bottom. it was a last minute idea so i didnt get many pictures, he got it for his brother as a birthday gift. i took the one in the photo completely apart and redid alot of it including the wiring and moved the cord switch closer to the base because his brother will be using it on his desk to study for college. anyway heres a few quick shots i DID take. Mikes supposed to get some good ones for me soon and I can update this thread. If your not sure i think this photo will change your mind-

Steve made this Mini Lamp as a prototype, so he customized some things to suit our needs. He made the chord extra long; 140-inches, with the switch just 10" off the base. This is one of those small details that you don't really think about until after-the-fact. It didn't limit placement of the lamp, nor are there any inconveniences with reaching for the on/off wheel, so no sacrifices need to be made as far as placement. Too boot, he changed the chord and put a clear one it's place, to make things a tad more discrete.
As an accessory on the desk, it's not overpowering at all, but still manages to attract the eye.
Definitely glad I bit the bullet. This thing's awesome!

Ill probably get started on a few more this week. I have a few big ones to wrap up small details and enough parts for a second mini so i think by friday i could have another one finished. I have a busy week coming up so i would say friday would be s safe day for completion if you wanted one brian
