Hey guys,

So once again my inner child (not that im old, im 25) are getting the best of me. My 01 SS is sporting Pacesetter Long tubes, ORY and the stock powerflo muffler into a OEM CME.

Lately im getting bored with the way my car sounds. It sounds good, i get alot of compliments from passengers but i want more lol. Its just missing something imo.

What can i do to make it louder lol. I still want it bearable since its my DD but its just not cutting it for me. I want that deep drone, i want the pops on deceleration, I want the rasp when i go wot. I know this isnt everybodys cup of tea but its definitly mine. Im not looking to spend a ton and im looking for minimal work. My problem is the CME. anything i buy must work with whats already here since im not looking to get rid of the cme. Also, id like to go without having to weld anything. Cutouts are a thought but not really what im looking for. Im mainly thinking a different muffler perhaps? any siggestions?

sorry for the long winded post, im home sick and bored.

How much are you asking? And this will go right in place of the muffler i already have? I was under the assumption the adj. catback needs work to work with a CME

I think a cutout would be perfect. Its everything you want and when you want quiet, you flip the switch. You really can't beat them. Sometimes the screws come loose or the wiring desoldered on the back of my motor. Very easy to repair once you understand how to take it apart and how it all works. You also keep your cme perfect :)

oh nevermind. i had to look up cme, but cutout would be great.

unless its like this

as much sense as ur post makes (which is alot) im very tempted by this borla. My dads vette had borla and it sounded perfect, my neighbors gt500 is borla too and it sounds wicked. If he posts up a decent price i may be on it but i have too many projects and family bills (****ing hurricane sandy) right now to afford anything big.

Well a borla is pretty much the same thing, just doesn't change with a switch. No harm in running it instead :)

CME?

Then all of this advice is moot.

Get a custom bullet muffler or something on there.

Why cant I use the Borla but swap my cme pipes to it?

Borlas in-out setup would be hard to do cme

Why ruin a CME for sound?

Toss a cutout, or hell, put two in off each header, loud, obnoxious, and slow. Winning. I guess.

I have no plans of "ruining" my cme so I'm not sure what you mean. I'm just altering for what l believe will be a better sound. It will still look exactly the same.

Rasp and drone gets old very, very quickly.

Mike

I would do one of 2 things.

1. Just throw a cut out in and call it a day

2. Have an exhaust shop remove the power flow muffler and replace it with just pipes. Then add a bullet muffler somewhere in the mid pipe like a loud mouth has it.

Loudmouth sounds badass, I'm very pro lm1, pretty much everything you want for cheap.. a resonator can be had for 84$ shipped

Not with long tubes and ory. I had that. NEVER AGAIN.

With shorty headers or stockers, and cats sounds great.

Pretty much. Sounds like 1000 Hondas in a confined area. Raspy as hell.

OP get a cutout. The loud and droning gets really old really fast, esp if you drive on the highway.

Ugh even on an LT1 with mid lengths and ORY it was too raspy and had a constant drone throughout the car. It was fun to hear bouncing off rev limiter though

Do you remember my SS? That was just LTs, ORY, and Magnaflow catback and it was loud as hell. Could you just toss in a magnaflow muffler? I dont think it would be that hard to keep the CME tips.

Heres the only video I have. Keep in mind I did have a decent size cam and it wasn't tuned in the video yet. (Hence it not liking to idle at more than like 20 rpms, lmao)

I don't know what the CME setup looks like (except that it's my initials haha) but I have longtubes, catted Y and a loudmouth system with a Borla bullet (p/n 40085.) The Borla cut down a a LOT of the drone, but is still has the loud, deep muscle car sound (important to me.) My car is an auto, so I don't get pops when decelerating, but it definitely has a nice sound at idle and is loud as ***** at WOT \m/

I run a full SLP exhaust with long tubes a ORY, and a LM1 on my 2002 N.H.R.A. Edition Formula M6, and its loud as Hell and baaaad assssss. Neighbors hear it blocks away and they love the look of the car, so they don't gimmie a hassle. I always go for the most horsepower regardless of how loud. As a lover of 2 stroke 3 wheelers like the 250r, I say louder is always better. Always

Yeah, and I'll bet the cops just *love* it, too. Enjoy the constant police interviews.

And this is why I no longer wish to have an Fbody.

Yea, I was on a test drive in a customers car with that setup. It got old really fast. Like a mile down the road fast. Horrible

im a fan of magnaflows. they can get loud as hell at WOT but cruising its nice and mellow. the hooker aero's are pretty nice sounding too but a little bit more rasp than the maggies

WildBillyT

In my opinion:

To get a good sounding exhaust, you need 3 things.

1.) CID
2.) Cam
3.) Exhaust system

Just like ricers, if you do something like run headers into an open or LM1 exhaust, it will be loud and obnoxious, not deep or throaty. Louder = Better works about the same as picking a cam by Bigger = Better.

Or another example. I can blast Fran Drescher and Gilbert Gottfried singing Christmas carols at you at 120 db. You won't like it even though it's loud.

I do not understand. Please elaborate.
U can here my car a few blocks away and i drive past police all te time. I think as long as ur car looks good, u dont look like a hippie, ur not doing something stupid in ur car, and ur car sounds good they wont really care. Im not talking open header car that sounds like a boat sound. So far lakewood, howell, jackson, and state boys have been good to me.

I'm referring to cars that are ridiculously loud. If you can be heard a few blocks away just driving easily, then you're probably in the realm. Too loud on the street attracts the wrong kind of attention, which pisses off the general public, which in turn calls for politicians to put the kibosh on modding. Look what's going on in the diesel crowd; all the tuners available in the US now do not have the options to delete the DPF and the EGR, and that's by a few random idiots 'rolling coal' and belching black smoke all over. Meanwhile, the guy who has a clean running modded rig just got screwed over by a reject with a mullet who doesn't realize that blowing black smoke isn't cool.

Dudbird113
12-17-2012, 09:46 PM
Actually my buddy who coworks for xdp doing installs and was ford diesel tech says there really after the dpf part. In instance the egr delete on a 6.0 diesel is a good thing cause it helps prolong the motor. I usually get complements for my car from people like oh that things sounds nice n looks nice. Some old guy thought i had a 454 under the hood lol.

What about sweet thunders? I hear they are pretty loud, but still have a nice deep roar to them. Just a thought
