Anybody watch that show on the History channel? It has that guy Danny from Pawn Stars in it. He fixes up Bikes and Cars. I watched an episode about a girl bringing him a 86 Camaro Iroc and she wanted them to fix it up. Think she spent 40,000 to fix it up to like new condition. That seems way to much for me. They just repainted the car black, put new 3rd gen interior in it and built a carb 383 motor for it.

Number seems right to me.
Car is over a quarter of a century old and came from the factory as a POS, I bet a lot needed extra work than the show led you to believe.

saw that episode...i thought the same thing..40 grand seems high for the work that was 'seemingly' performed..
however, being i work in film production, theres a 99% chance that plenty of work was done to that IROC, to justify the 40 grand pricetag, however, the segment got cut up (edited) extensively to what you saw air on tv. every segment has to adhere to certain timeframes in order to fit in advertising and bumpers (intros/outros).. so you the viewer see a paint job, motor, and interior..but theres probably another 30 min of footage that will never leave post production showcasing what else has been done to the car.
great to see an IROC on tv though!

I was into that show the whole first season and remember the IROC episode. Considering what they did the price seemed more than fair to me. I probably would have charged 20 for the paint alone and another 8-10 for the interior work let alone all the other stuff they did to it.

Price was too high, but it was a theft recovery and had a lot of sentimental value to her. Theres another show 'gas monkey garage' (forget the channel) but they buy older cars and redo them, then try to make $ at auctions...a lot of time they get skunked though but pay a decent amt of coin on them to begin w/.

Tough to tell if it's "worth it" through the TV. Granted it won't be a 40k iroc but depending on what they had to do, the price may have been OK.

I guess after thinking more about what was involved the 40k price tag is probably on target. I loved seeing a Iroc as well. I never watched that show before but I had to record it for the Camaro. She said the thieves put a piece of wood between the gas and the seat and tied the steering wheel straight and just let the car go. She said when they found it the car was up against a pole of a fence just sitting there roasting the tires!!

Uh...40k? Yeah, that must have been one shot-out car.

if you also look at one of the montage clips during the show when they cut away youll notice that the entire underneath of the car was redone and cleaned up and shiny. he pretty much made her car a brand new car, considering the fact that she owned that car since it was new, she got her moneys worth...also considering the fact that it wasnt just paint and interior, look how low it sits now and with the new motor under the hood. ive also never seen camaro panels fit that tight before. theyve done a lot more than meets the eye

Yeah hate to break it to you guys but 40K on a restoration is nothing. It's probably half of what your "average" full resto would cost you in this part of the country. Wheather or not the car is worth it is a different story...but there are many more cars out there with more money into them then they're worth than there are those who came out making money trust me.
As for the other show mentioned, Gas Monkey Garage....I hate that show. The work they do is a joke...it's half assed and only done to try and make a profit. The owner of that shop is just a numbers guy with a big mouth and ego and no talent whatsoever. He's never lifted a wrench once on the show. The guy Aaron that works for him however seems to know his stuff but is forced to work with the low budget the owner provides and cut corners in the name of just getting it done.

^ yes..i agree. That show is an hr long though and dives deeper into the car, which makes for good watching, like overhaulin' used to be. These 30min shows that chronical a car from beginning to end w/other topics thrown in just don't do the end product justice..almost like 'pimp my ride' type stuff

Even overhaulin' had some dicey things done to "make time"...

Oh my god you should see some of those Overhaulin' cars in person. They're 10 footers if that. I saw the Thunderbird and one of the other cars they did....you could surf on the body waves. It's just not possible to get a car straight and painted in less than a week.

I hope they do more episodes of Counting Cars. The Count seems to be a really cool guy who loves cars and isn't in the gig just for the bucks.

im with you there, i was stoked when the ''mechanic'' from pawn stars got his own show....now im hopelessly addicted to both...although sometimes some of the ''chase down'' scenes have me wondering if some of them are set up or not. im still waiting for the episode someone pulls out a gun on him :O i also like the other spinoff American Restoration :D

If I had 40k to blow so I can drop it off at some shop, I'd have a ****ed up resto too.
