Wouldn't say wealthy being their neighbor lives in a manufacturered home. Wealthy is any one of the majority of a-bags in north jersey who's folks buy them their first car, or 2nd bmw and proceed to beat the hell outt it and destroy something. This is an inspiring story being its a young person that rather not play xbox all day and instead do something tangible while learning things she can parlay into a career.. She will end up w/something to show for her work, pride, and a skill set and lessons learned going forward. It appears now everyone's first car is a 5year old (max) scion for 10k instead of the buying a pos and putting in wrench time.

This is awesome!

Of course it helps that she has the tool & knowledge base to make it possible, but the motivation and sweat equity is all on her. Kudos to her & her family.

Good luck getting a 14yo to do anything other than text. Build your own car and you will respect the time effort and the value of it.

I am confused as to why the need for welding/grinding on a resto of a fiero?

Watched the whole vid and no mention of a V8, there was also a few scenes of V6 parts etc.

I didnt understand that either. Not like the thing could really rot. All the panels are plastic. Musta found it abondened in the ocean or something. Other than that there pretty safe, my buddy flipped his going 60 around a turn and crawled out unhurt. And did she say that the cars all curves? I beg to differ

i found her thread on a fiero forum... she was doing sumthin with stiffening the frame and having the original motor rebuilt

I thought she was just boxing the frame or welding portions on it known for flex.

Heard of this as well, its gotten decent coverage in the media somewhere too. Not a big fan of Fieros, my brother has one and it hasn't done much to improve its image in my eyes. But I am impressed that she is doing this at that age. I was 14-15 when I started doing random repair jobs with my dad, 17 when I tore the 84 apart in the first attempt to get it back on the road. It is not unheard of to build a car at that age. I believe a friend of mine started building his car at 14, and that was an F body.

As for the welding part, these cars have a steel frame for those who don't know. Think vette style construction. Theoretically, you could remove all the body panels and still legally drive the car. My brother's has a Supercharged 3800 swap hooked up to a 4 speed. I've driven and ridden in it, the shift linkage and assembly is utter crap, as for the power, I don't know how hard he pushed it (he pushes it hard sometimes) but the GTA could easily keep up with it. An LS1 car however would blow the car into the weeds. There are fast fieros with that motor, my brother's is not one of them.

Archie kit in those things=badass. Northstar is a common swap too.

Wish they (Pontiac) could have built the next Gen Fiero. If you ever saw pictures of it, it was really a HUGE improvement in styling.

3800 SCs are likely more common, thats what my brother did with his car. I know there are fast Fieros out there, but I wasn't impressed with the 3800SC in my brother's. Thing with a typical V8 is you'd need to make it bolt up tranversely, the Northstar I believe was already a transverse motor. Otherwise you'd have it set up like a Pantera, which I doubt there is room for. I've heard of the Archie kit, but I don't know how it is set up in the car.

Supposedly they can handle the power with hardly anything done to them. Or so it is claimed. I find the claim a lil dubious. My brother shredded his clutch, it literally exploded and I had to tow him home. The other thing that they say is the handling is great just because it is mid engined....um....yeah.... then why does the MR2 we have out handle the Fiero by a mile? Oh yeah, it has an X body crapbox suspension on it. I've never driven an '88 Fiero but I've heard they're much improved.

the same thing that is wrong with critiquing a 14 year girl on her choice of fieros to build.
