2013 NJFBOA March Madness Pool!

Well, well, well! It's about that wonderful time of the year again! Your faithful commissioner is here to once again bring you 3 weeks of rage, entertainment, tears, comedy, curse words and glory!


We did a test run last year with a forum-wide March Madness pool and it was a fun 3 weeks of BS'ing and competing with our fellow club members. (http://www.njfboa.org/forums/showthread.php?t=59214)

We got to see wonderful things like MyFirstZ's generous donation in the first round, BlackbirdWS6's hustling characteristics being exposed (I will never believe that you got that far strictly picking by jersey colors & mascots. That's a suspicion I'm taking to the grave with me, Brian.) and of course the ever famous trash-talking Ls1ow providing us with the not-so-clutch and ever so ballsy Florida State championship pick:

It was actually a lot of fun, even with it being so small last year! My goal for this year's is to get more members involved, get the payouts higher, and share a lot more laughs with some new faces.




Breakdown:

$20 buy in.

This Sunday, the names & rankings will be made available to the public. When you see it in front of you, it will be very easy to understand. My girlfriend actually won first place last year, and she has zero interest in college basketball (meanwhile, I didn't fair as well :-? ...and I actually watch college hoops!!)


Teams are ranked from 1-16, (1 being the best).
Yahoo! shows you what percentage of people have selected in each given matchup.
There are always upsets throughout the tournament though--Which puts the "Madness" in March Madness. When in doubt, it's best to go with your gut.

Here's an example of what a filled out bracket will look like--Notice the numbers next to each teams names? Those are their rankings (aka "seeding")

Very simple stuff.

And just keep in mind that small upsets happen (like an 8 seed losing to a 9 seed) with some regularity and big upsets (like a 3 seed losing to an 11 seed) are more rare but still happen.

When everyone is paid up, I'll post up the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place payouts--Keep an eye out for a special announcement from the NJFBOA big-wigs, as well. :shifty: A lot of first timers taking the plunge & filling out a bracket this year. This is from 2 years ago, but it's pretty interesting to see. In some regions, it's business as usual, but in others, it was absurd how many lower-seeds beat higher seeds. There is no formula to the madness (no pun intended).

Who saw THAT coming. That was the 1st time Harvard has EVER won a game in the tournament. They were 0-3 or 0-4 in school history, never getting a single win in the big dance. Of course, they chose to change history last night and drop jaws around the nation.

Personally, I'm the type to say "it ain't over 'til it's over," having seen some crazy turn of events in this tournament's history. I remember being in pools where the winner only had a total of like 52 points or something. I'm not trying to give you false hope or anything, but do keep an eye on the "Possible Points" category. As you've begun to see already, anything can happen in this
tournament.
