I have decided to redo my c-prepared camaro. despite the fact that it is already the fastest cp car in the north east. compaared to the national champion from california im about 3 second behind on a 60 sec course. So a major upgrade is in order. The only parts that will be the same from last year will be the engine/trans and the wheels. here are some pictures of the progress.

Holy crap!

Why the exhaust through the cabin?

The car will have a ride height of 2-2.5 inches so there is no room under the car. The exhaust will exit out the pass door

cp is pretty much run watchya brung. with only a few rules on what you cant do. 1. engine in stock location + or - .5
2. can not move frame rails, can notch for clearance
3 no wings or splitters ,no traction control, no non stock abs
4 no IRS
5 no firewall mods ex for exhaust clearance
thats the big no can do mods i can remember of the top of my head. there are cubic in /weight rules. The rules are very stable in cp so you can take several years to build a car with no fear that it will be out dated when you get it done

Why not just dump it thru the fenders?

Why not just dump it thru the fenders?

there isnt enough room with a 13inch tire. I still need to run a muffler a lot of places have a 95db limit @ 50 ft

got some work done today. Got the rear squared up in the car it def took some time and one good buddy to get done but im making foward progress. The front crossmember will get tied together after I see if I need to raise the trans tunnel. Also got some custom front end parts today. I have to send the hubs back b/c the installed 5/8 studs instead of the 1/2 I told them. Nothing like more waiting

yes it is a full floater, speedway enginering it is basically the same housing nascar uses. The center chunk is a nascar spec unit from roush.

thanks, for the kind words. I was able to get the watts link mount fully welded to the rear. now just need to weld the outer arm mounts to the lower frame rail.

198esp1

it is a one off custom, built around specs I want in my front geometry. the stock geometry goes to crap when you start to really lower the car.

and some more. The car sits 2 inches lower than before its 250lbs lighter than the last time, its 2725, bigger rear tires 27x14 in the rear not on the car yet I orderd them on fri, more gear in the rear with a 9inch full floater set up. I can't wait to get to race it. I'm sure it will take at least 4-5 races to sort it out the spring rate shocks and sway bars

What rear gear are you running now? I would be interested in seeing what that thing can do on a big track. All that tire and so light I can imagine you could book around both NJMP circuits.

198esp1
04-20-2015, 12:28 PM
hopefully i can get down there this fall. the car has a 3.89 rear gear with the 27 inch tall tire 4th gear is good for 140@6800 2nd is perfect for autocross 79@6800

How much power does the car make? If you get to NJMP and like it maybe you can find a reason to visit one of the larger Pocono configurations, Walkins Glen, VIR or someplace else that you can really strectch the cars legs.

Have you ever thought about submitting it to Grassroots Motorsports for the Ultimate Track Car Challenge?

car makes about 490-500 at the flywheel best guess from lingenfelter. this year the plan is to autocross it locally in june go to Devens MA. for a national tour race, and hopefully the car will be about 2-3 seconds faster than it was in 2012, if it is then I want to go out to the national Championships in sept to see how I stack up against the really fast guys

How is the handling going to change with the taller tire?

198esp1
04-23-2015, 07:26 AM
I talked the the racer who helped develop this current tire it has a slightly different construction than the ones I raced on last. That being said Ron said I might need 50lbs more rear spring and to add some compression in the rear shocks, but with the car being totally different the initial setup is just an educated guess. It will take some time to get dialed in

its been a couple of months since i posted updates about the camaro. We will start with the good, the car is 2810 with all fluids. min weight for my class is 3000 without driver. once I melted down some lead to make ballast bars the car has 50.8 fr/49.2 rear, the cross weight is 50.2 and the left to right is 50.2 all with me in the car, so thats pretty awesome. Went racing with the SJ scca down in A.C to shake down the car ended up 5th fastest in raw time out of 79 cars. now the bad on my 8th run near the finish one of the fabricated uprights broke and in the process took out the right front inner rim. So I'm just waiting on the new parts to come in. Build race break repeat:banghead::banghead::

198esp1
07-17-2015, 12:36 PM
Damn. Why do you think it failed?

there are a couple reasons the main one is the lower control arm has no ball joint just a mono ball with 12degrees of movement, basically not enough articulation thru the range of movement as the suspension cycles.

NJSPEEDER
07-20-2015, 05:56 AM
What is the upgrade part to account for the needed range of motion? My understanding was always that ball joints with more ROM = Taller which I haven't ever read of anyone wanting as a solution. Is there a part or way to fabricate around it?

Congrats on the positive race result. South Jersey has some fast guys, stacking up strong against them says something.

198esp1
10-13-2015, 06:07 PM
so on saturday i finally went racing again this time to run with nnjr scaa, It was a stacked field of cars 119 with at least 10 national champions thrown in for good measure. After the last outing i was pretty cautious the first couple of runs, mostly waiting for something to brake. But the runs kept coming ended up running 7 times, and nothing broke every thing appears ok I will know more once i get the car in the air to do a post race inspection. Now for the driving, I was pretty darn slow for the first 5 runs. 3 years of no racing will do that to you. The last 2 runs i started to figure it out a little bit, on my last run i dropped .9 of a second. I ended up 36 out off 119 in raw time, not as fast as the car used to be in 2012 but i think the potential is there for top 5 pretty soon.

i don't think so a cold front is coming and the big tires don't really work when its less than 75 out even last weekend was marginal.

198esp1

Congrats on getting back out there. Where did you end up in the index?

I finished 53rd cp doesn't really have a friendly pax number. back in 2012 i was usually top 20 at this kinda event, but I'm super rusty and the car has tons of development left to go, like what spring and bar combination, what suspension geometry, alignment ,brake bias the list goes on and on. thats part of the fun. It will take the better part of a full season and a half to get it dialed in.
