I'm debating if I should buy a bike on ebay and having it shipped. There was a quote by a company called uship that was pretty reasonable but about half the price as other companies. Has anyone ever used this company, what about other companies? Anything go wrong? Thanks for any info.

I thought UShip was a website for multiple quotes from private shippers, not a shipping company? Maybe I've watched too much A&E.

AND THIS IS WHY I STAY AROUND. Wow, Ebay would've screwed me over HARD if I just clicked buy it now because of the shipping quote!

have you ever seen the show on A&E? im sure all private shippers arent like that but why risk it on a bike/car youve never seen? the odds are against you already, why would you risk saving money and having it shipped with a person without a reputation and end up getting it in even worse condition than shown in the pictures?
granted the site is just like ebay with reputations and rating, but theres just something you wouldnt buy from ebay unless you were sure they were legit. i would not use a private one man show type deal to ship a product. stick with large companies.
IMO just do it right the first time and play it safe

Just to clarify, I thought Uship was a company, which was I asked if anyone used it. Ebay has a shipping quote thing that drop's down in the listing, and it was the cheapest so I asked about it. Clearly asking about it was the right thing because I would've screwed myself if I just bid on it thinking that price was legit..
I'm not getting it because I don't have the time to go to MD and get it and the shipping is too much money since that quote was ********.
Thanks everyone, You saved me a huge headache.

I'm sure you could call a few places and get a rough estimate of what you'd be looking at to have it transported.
I know my girlfriend's family just shipped a car from TX to NJ and got bent over to the tune of $750. While I've never been down this avenue, something tells me that's on the higher end of the spectrum. Why not just call a few places up on your lunch break?

Yeah it is. I just did the math based on baltimore and 300 would barely cover gas in my truck

ok, well then I mean for someone who gets more than 3.5mpg its a fair deal.
If I was from central or south, I'd do it for even $200 no question, 4 hours(@$10 an hr = $40) time and half a tank of fuel($60), I'd still make 100 fast cash.

I get 18. It will take more than a half tank depending where in Maryland though
i just went off that edison to baltimore is 160 miles so just over 320 round trip.
I just know in my truck, pulling a trailer(loaded for return trip), I went to phoenixville PA and back(300 miles total), on $50 of diesel with some left to spare.
everyone is talking about maryland like it 20 miles wide.
in reality its 250 miles wide.
I'm sure matt could clarify the exact town for us but ok my point is, with $300, I can buy almost 75 gallons of fuel, and even with say only doing 15mpg, thats still a trip of 1,125 miles... thats still enough to go to the farthest point in Maryland and back.
I just brought it up as a possible idea or option, not saying it would be beneficial to everyone with a truck to consider.
matt clarify the town and i will give you a quote
(fly to nearest airport then fly back;) ) jk
but seriously

I wouldn't put the wear and tear on my vehicle and trailer or risk crashing with somebody else's stuff on my trailer for $10 per hour. I would guess the going rate would be around $50 or $75 per hour.

Just be careful getting shipping quotes for any vehicle. There are a lot of sites that you can ask for a quote and you'll get some interesting numbers. Half of the "shipping companies" actually just farm it out to whoever will do it cheaper and you can end up with a real POS company hauling it. NJ to TX should easily cost $750 by a reputable company on a car. If you want enclosed, the price goes up. CA to NJ enclosed is probably $1500 minimum but you get a quality company that won't mess up your vehicle. I think I paid around $750 for that L78 Camaro coming from Ontario but they were highly recommended and they were real pros. And the truck driver told me most of the cars were rejected at the border for bad paperwork or did not pass inspection. I've seen cheap haulers put magnetic "trailer" lights on the back of the car for brake lights. The 1968 Camaro I had shipped from OK came in covered in oil because the POS Jeep Cherokee above it on the trailer leaked the whole way through a rain storm! The Ebay shipping quote thing is not something you want to even think about. Your best bet is to ask for recommendations or even get someone you know that is willing to do it for a realistic fee. Buying local can really save all the hassles though.
if you ship through the guy that parks his trucks next to mine youll get your bike or car beat the **** out of by his 15 year old son before delivery :)

I bought my Camaro on ebay and had it shipped up from Florida using the ebay shipper link. It was like $700 and all was fine.

Aside from the whole eBay quote process, does anyone have any actual recommendations for companies to use?

FedEx Custom Critical does a fantastic job. I had a car shipped from Sandusky OH to Flemington NJ, and while it was not cheap they were rock solid. Huge enclosed trailers, very experienced drivers (who you got the cell # for) and so forth. The only downside is that the trailer is too long for a lot of places so you have to offload the car in a large parking lot or something like that.
They were long hauling from pebble beach when I used them, which says something in itself.

I used Intercity Lines I think it was for one of my cars. Enclosed trailer coming from CA in the middle of winter. Now that we're going into severe weather season, going enclosed may be a safer bet even if it costs more, but it obviously depends on what condition the vehicle is in to begin with.

Drive it!
The cost to ship is almost as much as it would be to drive once you factor in gas, lodging & food. Plus shipping will save you 3,000+ miles of excessive wear off the car.
I'm still working out the details, right now my work schedule is pretty hectic since I go back to the States.
I used DAS to ship a 93 trans am from linden NJ to Minnesota, cost around 700, that was 6 years ago.
Also brought my friends fox body mustang to the same Linden terminal to ship it out, Once again no issues.
