Inspection - OBD Readiness

So I took my car through inspection and failed for "overall readiness". The report says that the catalytic converters, evaporative system, secondary air injection, oxygen sensors, and oxygen sensor - heaters are all "not ready". After the first time I took it through I thought maybe it had to do with the battery. Every time I turned my car off the trip odometer would reset and the gauge needles would go all the way up and back down. So thinking maybe the computer was resetting and erasing all the data from the ODB tests I cleaned and tightened up the battery connectors. After doing that I filled up the gas tank and drove it a little over 100 miles. Just took it through again and failed for all the same things. Do I just need to drive it more so all the OBD tests have more time to run or is there something else I should be looking at? Thanks!

I did hear certain obdII cars need a cycle of on/off starts and/or mileage driven in order to reset the ecu...more related on honda cars though. Put some mileage on it and go back again..anything more than 50miles.

Yeah it can be tedious to get the monitors to set. If anything, I would be some miles on the car then scan it while its still running. See if some of them set. Then shut it off and turn the key on, see if it is setting them to not ready again. 01 and newer can have 1 monitor not ready while 96-00 and older can have 2 not ready. Some of the drive cycles are tricky though and the evap monitor usually only runs between 1/4-3/4 tank.

Between driving to Rutgers, AC and King of Prussia I've put over 400 miles on it and am still getting "not ready" for all the same things :facepalm: I guess I'm gonna ask my friend to look at it with his scanner when he gets a chance. Any other ideas?

Could be because of the tune. Did you drive for a long time without turning the car off and then check it still running?

i had a similar issue with the readiness sensors not setting. i just tuned that **** out. now i can pull my battery and as soon as its started again everything goes ready.

I haven't hooked it up to a scanner at all other than at the DMV. I'm going to see if my friend will let me borrow his.

I think if they DO NOT display NOT READY but aren't actually working/monitored aka NOT APPLICABLE you can get through. I think....

It came back as "unsupported" for heated catalytic converters and A/C Refrigerant and they didn't highlight those items as part of the reason I failed.

Yeah, that's the word. If you can force the other monitors via tune to read unsupported, you may get through. I'm not positive on that one. I really wonder if its cause your car is speed density tuned. Is there a maf on it that works?
