looks like the trench they cut in the brand new board walk helped stop the spread, hot spots still burning of course, theyll be there for quite a while yet

This is sad. Idk about you guys but I had a lot of firsts in my life right in that area. From being a kid on family vacations to having my first drink at a bar at jack and bills. After sandy, and that section being the only boardwalk section that survived sandy it makes it that much sadder. 4 generations of family ate at that kohrs, rode the carasel. Its sad. We all knew things weren't going to be the same after sandy but this just takes away the little bit of originality we had left

Agreed. Looks like this fire finished off what Sandy didn't kill.

When I first saw the report, I thought it was fairly isolated but obviously this isn't the case. Pretty sad.

Thats sad.. Why was the boardwalk open if they did not have the water suppy for fighting fires? The fire marshall said that they have had a issue with getting water back to the water mains on the board walk after Sandy.

Thats sad.. Why was the boardwalk open if they did not have the water suppy for fighting fires?.

Because that'sthe main source of income for Seaside Hieghts and Seaside Park

You think the shops knew that there was a water issue or was that something that was hidden from them?

I would think that many of them didn't have a choice.

A big part of me thinks it was arson.

I was thinking that to but I sure hope not.. That would be so devastating..

I mean, it would fit into the process of revamping the area...

Long Branch pier burnt down, and then they decided to boot everyone and build fancy pier village. Brings more money into the city than tourists at a boardwalk I would guess.

The north end of point pleasant boardwalk (Jenkinsons) sure is a lot nice after the fire.

Again, not to start a conspiracy but I would not be surprised if it was set by one of the business owners who did not spring back very well.

There is no way it will ever be rebuilt the way it was, even if they wanted to and had the money. Fire code will not allow it, all that stuff was grandfathered.

Doubt it was arson. Salt water and electrical wires just don't mix well. Someone missed when they inspected the electrical post sandy so many peoples homes burnt down after the storm due to damaged wiring.

A customer of mine that lives 3 houses down from where it started says that the one shop had new service run to it from the town but still used the original wiring from before sandy. Also someone tried putting the fire out but once they put water on it the fire grew alot... Grease fire..?

One of the Kohr brothers said smoke came through his stand's floor. I guess we have to wait for the official report...

101.5 said today that they will officially announce later that the fire was an "accident".

The hearsay is that people heard popping coming from under the boardwalk by the ice cream stand.

News said faulty wiring, damaged during Sandy.

What does the immediate future look like for those affected?

Hopefully cash out, and then the town eminent domains the area and lets developers come in to re do it.

That's insane... so they didn't check over EVERYTHING? Because you know, salt doesn't damage anything.

that area was inaccessible, buildings on both sides of the boardwalk. no access other then to rip up and replace the part of the board walk that wasnt destroyed.
