Daily driver gas mileage

Since I ended up towing the speed skiff around a lot more this past summer, I decided to check my gas mileage on the truck. 2001 Silverado Reg Cab 4x4 with 5.3 A4 and 34" AT tires (computer corrected for oversize tires) 3.73 gears that weighs in around 4400 lbs. Driving the past 5-6 months which includes towing the speed skiff (probably around 1900-2000lbs) almost every weekend (somtimes twice) it averaged out to 16.1 mpg. My drive to work is 10 minutes with 4 traffic lights so that hurts mpg no matter what vehicle I have had. I looked back to 3-1/2 years ago when I got the truck and the first 4-5 months it averaged 16.64 mpg with no towing. Not great gas mileage, but considering the 96 Toyota Tacoma reg cab 4x4 4 cyl truck I had previously was averaging 17.5 mpg with the same daily work drive, the Silverado isn't doing too bad.

Yes, I have the Diablosport tuner to correct for the tire size change and I made adjustments to the fuel trims and the trans shifting. The truck has 111,000 miles on it now which is getting high for me, I usually sell things after 2 or 3 years! :lol:

Oh yeah, I just hauled the remains of a 32-35 foot tall white pine to the dump after cutting the tree apart with a hand saw! There's still 6' left of the trunk section, but I think I need a chain saw for that.

Edit: On a tow tune, usually average 15 with a load.

My 01 wrangler 4.0 5 speed on 30's? gets about mid 16's to and from work 7 miles one way local roads with lights. 65 mph on the parkway nets just about 20. With the hardtop on for winter, it'll probably drop half an mpg. Roof rack will probably drop another half an mpg but I usually put it on only when needed, like going on safari :lol:

my commute is similar to yours, i do 95% city driving. the CTS-V is averaging 14.5mpg, muffler delete and CAI and is driven how it was built to be driven lol.

My 04 liberty went from 20mpg to 15.9 after a lift and 30's....'93 Silverado 4x4/5.7 extended cab average around 16.5mpg...the '12 Silverado w/the 5.3/ext-cab is right around 17mpg around town/highway and high 18's on the highway.

My avg seems to depend on summer/winter blends. Winter avg 25-26, Summers avg 28-30, with a Focus ST. And I drive it hard now and then. Took it to the strip, then cruised to PA and back a couple times, that tank still avg 29 MPG. When I daily drove the bird in the winter, ranged from 15-21.

My AWD G35 gets around 17mpg, and my commute is basically 10 miles of local roads with traffic lights and morning commuter traffic getting around the George Washington Bridge. Lots of stop and go, with plenty of abuse from my right foot when there's room. ;) It gets over 20mpg on highway voyages. My wife's '03 Liberty is driven all local as well, and the trip computer says its gets 14.5mpg.

I usually average around 19-20mpg in the G8 but my commute is mostly a short highway trip. I don't tolerate left lane squatters so I assume I could do a bit better.

My commute is about 40 miles round trip and it's mostly highway. My truck gets about 13mpg with the summer blend and about 11.5 with the winter fuel.

My Z still gets the same mileage as was advertised from the factory. 16mpg city/ 24mpg highway. With the original opti-crap and 145k miles. My commute is about 14 miles round trip up and down the Black Horse Pike. I am completely insane on keeping up with fuel system maintenance. Fuel filter every 7k miles along with a pressurized fuel injection cleaning. Startron enzyme ethanol treatment everytime I fill up(which is amazing stuff I might add), peace of mind that the ethanol wont eat up my older non-ethanol fuel system.

I drove a friend's TDI Golf for a day, swapped cars so he could take it to service for me, he worked at the dealer where I got the car. Was a very nice refined car, needle didn't move one bit, but it was sorely lacking in the handling department. Then again, I'm spoiled, between the built GTA and the ST with Eagle F1 rubber, that Golf felt very skittish. But had a long commute been a factor, I would have considered a diesel.

I don't go crazy with the MPG or any kind of HyperMiling or anything, but I do keep track of the average every fill-up. DD is a 2005 3.6L STS, and usually it gets around 22ish on Regular, give or take 1-1.5mpg depending on my behavior.

Commute is ~32 miles each way between Suburbia and Manhattan, and a decent amount of idling. Weekends it put-puts around for errands or as an evening car.

I was averaging 25mpg during the summer on long weekend trips; That was nice to see. I will probably be doing some maintenance stuff soon, a la fuel and air filter. We'll see if it helps the averages any.

Yeah, I'm 39 miles one way against traffic. Basically all highway, no traffic. So TDI was the way to go for economy. Even if I was OK with a hybrid (which I wouldn't be) it wouldn't be optimal since I'd never be braking for regeneration. The Passat handles great. Very well done car. Would probably handle better with wider tires but then again I'm not sacrificing economy for performance I'd rarely use.

Lifetime average for my Exploder is 17.5 mpg. Vast majority of that being hilly backroads, with some towing and highway cruises down the shore thrown in. I've seen as high as 24.5 on straight highway (filled up right before I go ton/off), 65 mph, at 2 am with nobody on the road :lol:.

I do about 80 round trip and I'm averaging 23.7 in the Subaru. With a bigger intercooler, cart-less up and downpipes and a cat back with a off the shelf tune. And a check engine light for a bad o2 sensor and a exhaust leak lol

My commute is somewhat mixed. Through brick, on the parkway, then route 33 out to monroe. On the way home I take route 9 since its 2 am

Depending on how I drive, I average between 22-27 in the 2011 Saab 9-3 2.0T with AWD. Trip computer dropped from 25.2 to 24.0 since November 1, though.

My wife's '04 Grand Cherokee 4.7/A5 averages 13-14 daily commute (very little highway), and 18-20 on the open highway.

My '92 Cherokee 4.0/A4 averages 15-16 in the summer and 13-14 in the winter daily driving. Highway trips can tip the scales at just about 20 mpg.
