not last as in the paint just peels off?
i once had a friend back in the late 90's have his car painted at the MAACO in Perth Amboy and it was the worst paint job i ever saw. Was dull and peeled off in a year. Not only that. They painted over every possible piece of trim. Basically like they just taped over the windows and wheels and just sprayed everything...
So that kinda scares me with MAACO. But it seems the one in Keyport has pretty good reviews and I know they are all independently owned and operated so I can not hold Perth Amboys shotty work against them... But man that Amboy paint job was the single worst paint job I ever saw. I wish I had a picture...
with paint jobs, you get what you pay for. Simple as that. Yes one place you said did shotty work and ok other places may take more pride in what they do But you will still be paying for cheap low quality paint.
For a dd or a car you don't plan to keep, go for it. Anything else, don't. I had a trans am painted by saddle brook macco in 1999. Came out ok with some runs and overspray but looked better so it would sell.
I will be painting my current trans am in the coming year. Ill be doing it myself and paint cost alone will be $1500 easy not including other supplies like sandpaper etc. I use ppg paints which are good quality, and not even a very high end paint which could cost several times more.
To have a good quality paint job done by a professional, Id say to expect $4000 min and that's no bodywork or taking anything apart or off the car.
A $500 macco job is never going to compare. It will always be a substandard job regardless.

The reason im thinking of MAACO is for right now im not looking for a 'forever' paint job. Not until I have a garage which is about 3 years away. It gets parked outside in a condo lot so im basically looking for some minor body work, a windshield, and either a full paint job or blending where the body work is for now. Dont want it to look like crap or fade in a year. Would like to keep it looking good for about 3 years which at that time ill pay the 5000 plus for paint because ill be able to garage it.

I can't comment on the Maaco location you're talking about, because honestly they're all different. I have had very good results with the Maaco in Delran, a really good job for the money. I know multiple people that have had work done there and said the same.
I have seen someone get a their cherokee done at a Philly Maaco and it looked like absolute crap...didn't tape off the trim, emblems, did a crap job taping off around the windows, the paint had more orange peel than an actual orange.
The best thing you can do is stop by the location, and take a look at the work they have done. Look at a bunch of different cars on the lot, ask questions about them to see what they have done. Ask them to walk you around an example of their work. Talk to someone, feel them out, get an estimate. Sometimes people don't want the minor damage/dings repaired and just want them to spray a new coat of paint on the car. It's best to talk to someone

^ This. Correct in every aspect. I have gotten a few cars painted at maaco and how long it last depends on how it is taken care of. I normally got the bc/cc option and had the car covered when not in use. For me, it lasted well over 3-4 years.

whats the bc/cc option?
how many option do they offer?
whats the bc/cc option?
That option actually gets you paint in the spray gun:mrgreen:

guess the 99 dollar option is the paint brush and roller
bc/cc is base coat/clear coat aka two stage. Single stage is less and usually less durable too.

single stage = no clear coat? must look like crap and have no shine..
single stage = no clear coat? must look like crap and have no shine..
not exactly. there is gloss to it. its in the paint with the color. but obviously since its a typical 2-in-1 product, there are some disadvantages to it over bc/cc.
Also, you said in a few years you'd go for a proper paint job. But it'll be over a lower quality base. you'd have to have it all stripped down in order to ever get a good finish again.

V, I could not agree with you more. You get what you pay for. I spent $8500.00 on the paint and body work done to the Z. And I've been told the paint looks better than the paint on my 2012 "new factory paint" Malibu.

Heres a tip with Maaco. First off Saddle Brook and Paterson are hands down the best 2 shops around. ask to speak with the painter about the job you want done. hit him off with a good tip and they will take care of your car paying special attention to detail. I paid 800 and had lower quarters welded on my Chevelle. Gave the Painter $150 as I went over what I wanted done with him. Obviously not in front of management. 11 years strong and still wins shows. Good luck.

I do believe the top 2 paint packages are the bc/cc option or 2 stage option. I always went to the one in pinebrook off rt 46 east however last I heard they are no longer a maaco, different shop name now.

mine was done at saddle brook, they kept it a little longer then expected because a few panels didnt come out to their liking. it came out with a nice shine, no clear coat.

I had my car done at Garfield and I cant complain. It's rarely been outside but in good condition for the money I paid. That being said it is not a show car and I will be redoing it once I get the mechanical issues sorted.

Maaco Saddle Brook was vandalized by 4 masked men. Shattered windows on customer cars, graffiti, and significant body damage. There's an estimated $40,000 in damages.
News12 just showed the surveillance footage.
