View Full Version : Etown Wednesday (3/9)?

Anyone interested in watching me embarrass myself in the Hellcat this Wednesday? Or perhaps run your car as well?

I'm going to see how terrible this car is to launch with the stock summer tires but it should be fun letting it loose on a closed course.

Who's in?

I've read that and also seen folks still start in 1st. I think the first time out I will give it a shot in 1st and if that doesn't seem effective, I will try launching in 2nd. Good or bad, results will be posted.

If I run 18's, I better be going backwards or have had a catastrophic failure.

Hoping to be there around 5:30 but may be around 6 depending on work/traffic.

I wouldn't say I plan on racing it often. I'm sure after this trip, a set of DRs and a driveshaft will be on order in short order.

I should be there with the V.

Nice. How "stock" is she?

Apparently you haven't seen how terribly I drive my Firebird? ;)

I'm not too concerned but would like to see a 11 sec slip tomorrow. Doing some messing around during lunch, I think leaving in 2nd is going to be best. Anything over 1/2 throttle in 1st is pretty useless.

Friendly criticism can make things fun but there is no need for it to be that serious. Feel free to swing by and say hi if you see the HC.

Very cool. I'm hoping many don't know there are doing a T&T this evening so its not too crowded. I'm sure they won't give more than 3 runs anyway but who knows. I'd rather not be there until close to get my 3rd run.

I don't think it will be too crowded because I'm sure a lot of people's cars aren't done yet I noticed it's the most packed end of summer / fall . I pretty much went every week from open to close lol

I saw 1320videos posted something today on Instagram about the 1st T&T at Etown. So that might get a few more people there. Unfortunately I have to bail on tonight. Warm track and cool air should make for some nice runs.

Also if you want to guarantee 3 runs pay the extra 20 and get in a bracket. You get 2 dial in time shots and at least 1 race. Sometimes better then sitting in lanes 1&2 forever. Plus bracket racing helps you get better on the tree.

So I made it down there. I bottomed out the y pipe on the beautiful roads of Oldbridge and at 1/8th mile the y pipe came off the header.
Had to drive home open header. Luckily the pass side stayed connected.

Overall tonight was a lot of fun and apparently I was the only Hellcat there. I was pleasantly surprised at peoples reaction to the car and it started a lot of conversations. SilverDropTop made it out with his CTSV, KirkEvil with the TBSS and Redsoxstinks in the 3rd gen. I know other members were there but didn't see them or have an opportunity to swing over.

I got to the track around 5:45, got through tech and then right into the lanes. Before I could do anything, I was called to make a run. This would turn out to be the best run of the day. I left soft in 2nd gear and ran a 11.8 @ 123 with a 2.0 60'. In doing that, I managed to beat a nice C6Z who ran a similar mph. The guy was cool and chatted in the lanes after the run. The 2nd run was versus a GTR. I tried to leave harder in 2nd and the car literally had 0 traction. I ice skated to a 2.56 60' and aborted the run. You can assume the GTR did a bit better.... The 3rd run was versus a Boss 302 and due to my prior launch failure, I decided to leave soft....but it was too soft going to a 2.1 60' and a 12.0 @ 123. I did beat the Boss at least (video below).

So I think it's safe to say I will be figuring out a drag tire setup and a getting an aluminum driveshaft as well. For those unaware, they put 275s on these cars which is fun for easy burnouts but not so good for 60's.

I stopped on the scale as well and the car weighs 4670 lbs with me in it.

Ouch that blows. Glad to hear you didn't lose the y-pipe completely.

Was it not shifting at high rpms or a different issue?

High rpm wouldn't go in 2-3-4 and would grind but on street its fine

Don't guys do the drill mod to increase flow? Sounds like its not disengaging enough. My shifting is from P to D though 8-)

Yeah did it when swapped master but now I'm thinking I will start with a good aftermarket master , re-bleed take it from there since either way it's gotta be done might as well start with the easier and cheaper option

Sorry to thread Jack lol

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I can't wait to get a proper tire on the car to get the 60' down and leave in 1st.

The problem with putting a stall in the TBSS is that I would like to retain towing ability. I would definitely see gains with a stall but it's not an apples to apples comparison to other LSX platforms with 9.5" converters to the tow rated stalls. Rotational mass is not improved by much since the converter would be close to the stock 12" size, and stall rpm and STR must be lower so the Trans does not cook.

Yank and circle d each make a non billet converter that they claim keeps stock towing capacity. Those are 278mm and 3k is the highest they go. I'm skeptical that this would net the et drop to justify the price and sweat of installing it. My truck is AWD so install is going to be twice the pain in the ass.

The yank pro converters or vigilante multidisc are built to 258mm. I suspect I could get away with towing here and there on a 3200 even though they aren't advertised for it. Downside with these is twice the cost and risk.

Your truck is 1000lbs. heavier than my car but I'm willing to bet the 265mm with a stall range of 2500-3500 would do you just fine. I'd call or email Chris at Circle-D and get his take on occasional towing. He was very helpful when I was selecting my converter.

Right now the vette is going nowhere fast. Started tearing into it last night to replace the shot balancer and saw that all the bushings bolts and rod ends are looking their age. There is also enough dirt stuck in the radiator and condenser that I could plant seeds and nourish a small plantation. It would be a niche market, but I foresee a profitable future in a trackside vette vegetable market. Let's be real, those corvette nut jobs with dead hands, stuffed animals, and 7 taillights would kill for a chevy grown eggplant. In summary, Tbss needs to retain towing if I am to pull this mobile gardening opportunity to the track.
