Here are the pictures I NEVER hoped to see:rofl:. Lots of small items I may be able to get off and IF somebody is interested in buying it back from me (once I get a figure) let me know.

More pictures of the DAMAGE in the next thread!

Ed-

Did they total it out? It really blows to see the car like that but honestly I expected worse.

That isn't as bad as I was expecting. Definitely repairable.

I got the Insurance agent to meet up with my body shop guy and I'am now waiting to see what the out come is. The rear 1/4 is really pushed in at the bottom and also at the top end. It is worse than it looks. It needs a rear 1/4 which is going to require a donor car. Both front and rear bumpers are gone and repairing RUBBER used parts car had small dents which will not show up until gloss paint is applied. The front bumper is pushed in and bent down, so who knows what is damaged under it. The part that sucks, is that NOBODY i.e., such as Classic Industries-Yearbook One etc., makes reproduction parts for the 1991-92 Firebird because it was a limited mod just for those 2 years. The OEM is LONG gone, so that leaves me with no way to get QUALITY parts and I would not want to have to track down a donor car and go thru that PIA:rofl:. So the bottom line is, IF it is totaled (my body shop feels it is) then I would like to see what my buy back is and offer it (as a total car) to anyone who wants it for the quality like parts that this car has to offer. I will NOT piece it out, it's ALL or nothing.

That's probably the best way to do it. I'm sure there are plenty of people who could repair it and be really happy with the result. But they would have to not care about used/repro stuff.

Goodmark appears to make a quarter:

But who knows what the fit is like, and I can't tell if it covers the repair area.

I bet the rear frame rails are bent. They dont take hits well.

The car still drives straight and I had a set of ALSTON SFC on it. I would have fixed this in a heartbeat IF the rear 1/4 could have been saved. So much work involved in getting it back to looking as good as it did BEFORE accident:-x. Being ANAL doesn't help when OEM parts do not exist and reproduction parts are also NOT MADE, because this was an only 2 year (1991-92) design.

There is nothing wrong with used oem parts. you can easily find a rust free qtr panel. They are out there. The nose is easy to fine as well. I understand how you feel but its the body shops job to make it look like it never happened.

Just food for thought, lets say they total it and give you a good buy back price...why not just fix it?

likely salvage title would be my first problem.

Why? Is NJ difficult to deal with that stuff?

I was chatting with an adjuster and he does it on the side for fun. It really just kills residual value but its not that big of a deal to go through the salvage process so long as you cross your t's, dot your i's, and maintain records. No first hand experience though.

its that value thing that matters. especially when you go to sell it.

A salvage title is not a big deal. There are legal ways to make the salvage disappear.

My one bike was a new Hampshire salvage title. I went through the whole process in nj to get a clear title. Was pretty easy actually for me at least. To do it with a car to sell as original, not worth it. But if i buy a salvage car for 1/8 actual value, fix with another 1/8 value into it, as long as i could sell for half the normal value, i profit. But that's only people who fix and flip cars. For enthusiasts sometimes its just having a certain car and not caring what it'll sell for one day.

if he has a clear title now and does not turn it over to insurance company it will still be a clean title just the an accident mark, just tell them no matter what your keeping car and going to have it fixed no mater what,

Yup but like what Paul and Ted said, you can make it work.

True but seeing Ed post as long as I have he'd never get the sentimental value for it anyway...so it's worth looking into especially if there wouldn't be any plans to sell it for a long time.

Yea, I don't think this will be an issue. Went through this with my Jeep when it was hit while parked. Was declared an obvious total loss with 1/4 panel damage on a 23 year old Jeep with 285k-ish miles, but it didn't drive any differently after the hit, and the buyback was under $400, so I bought it back and have kept on driving it, same insurance company & policy, no change to the title.
