I am looking at a 1997 SLP Comp T/A (1 of only 47 built) that has this as an option. What does it do, over the standard posi rear. It also has a AAM Aluminum Cover.

I thought it was basically just a package that included a ram air hood with a center stripe.

Torsen is just the name of the posi unit used in the rear.

It's a $995.00 option along with an upgraded Level II Bilstein Sport Suspension-Hurst Shifter-Comp T/A car cover-Comp T/A floor mats and oil cooler. If you got all the extra SLP options, it was an extra $7,499.00 added to the list price.

I'm Pretty sure it's nothing special from
Any other limited slip 4th gen out there. Torsen is just the name of the carrier for 93-97. Zexel is the carrier name for 98-02 and third gens have the auburn

There charging almost $1,000 for this unit and I remember if you read the title, it has something to do with wheel spin.

A torsen is like this, it uses gears instead of clutches. Like a trutrack. I understand them to be better when handling is primary concern vs straightnline traction.

Where a clutch type is like this. A very different design.

A torsen is a clutch-less limited slip differential...

Is there some deeper more confusing question here?

I am guessing that's the price of the option from SLP back in the day.

A few years back I was trying to buy a rebuild kit for a Torsen I bought (They don't sell kits, just whole units) and through all the info I read, there are two design choices of Torsens. one is the Torsen T2 that is in any 98-02 F body with the LSD option. There was a T2R version that's for racing, which it'll be stamped on the case somewhere, but I don't believe that came from the factory in any car, and is something you order from Torsen.
