Anyone know the process of a pre 73 new york transferable registration to a nj title?

Based on what I have read, owner of the pre-73 car needs to have the latest registration from NY. If they do not have the latest valid registration, they need to get it otherwise you are prob SOL with NJ getting it titled.

To Title and Register a vehicle that was Pre-Owned in a state that does not issue titles, you need:
A pencil tracing or a printed-out photograph of the vehicle identification number (VIN#).
A registration application (BA-49). This can only be obtained at an MVC agency.
A power of attorney (POA) if applicable. (Only needed if someone other than the purchaser is signing the documents on behalf of the purchaser.
Purchaser’s actual driver's license or identification document. (Copy of purchaser’s driver’s license if POA is being used.)
New Jersey insurance. (Must have in order to register vehicle.)
A notarized statement from the seller that must include all of the following information about the vehicle:
year manufactured
make
VIN#
price of purchase
The last registration card that the seller has for the vehicle showing that the vehicle was registered and owned by the seller.
Certificate of Ownership (form SS-7) OS/SS-7 Application for Certificate of Ownership (title) [pdf].

Payment fee for titling:
American Express®, MasterCard®, Visa®, check, money order or cash
$60 for a standard vehicle.
$85 for a financed vehicle with one lien.
$110 for a financed vehicle with two liens .
Registration fee, which will vary depending on the type of vehicle. License plates are included.
Lien holder’s information and financing statement if applicable, OS/SS-85c Financing Statement- procedure to add a lien.
