Thoughts on this Jensen as a entry level piece?

I'd recommend spending a bit more and getting something that has android auto. Then you use Google maps via phone to the head unit versus whatever Jensen uses.

Interesting, did not think of that, but that would use data no?

Maps in the non-satellite view should no to little data. Take a look at the Pioneer 4100NEX which is what I put in Gina's truck. Great head unit for the money IMO.

there are headunits that use google maps/waze off of your phone? Definitely getting that for the bird/cobalt. Bird has a 12 year old alpine in it hahaha

Yes among other features (Pandora, BT, etc)

I got the single din that uses bluetooth to play stuff and make phone calls. It has an aux mic that i just stuck to the dash. Calls are really clear. Have that in the legacy

Looks like Alpine doesn't have any "Android Auto" headunits :( Pioneer might be the way to go

If you are diehard android they also sell specific head units for those as well. These are off name brands but people claim good success with some of them. Here is one which has a long thread on LS1TECH. https://www.carjoying.com/special-offers-head-units/joying-2016-latest-automotive-usa-warehouse-universal-android-4-4-4-kitkat-7-inch-car-stereo-auto-radio-quad-core-hd-1024-600-double-din-16gb-audio-gps-navigation-system.html
