I have as much protection in place as reasonable but it still won't matter much. I have my and my wife's ID locked with the credit bureau's so if anyone applies for new credit, it won't allow them to do so and I am notified. This is a free service but can be a "hassle" if you want to apply for credit on the fly (phone call, verify identify, etc etc).

Interesting, how do you sign up? I was thinking of freezing mine, you just call one of the bureaus.

I'm not aware of this either but def sounds like a good idea. In for more info.
I got screwed once and someone took my debit card info and spent all my money years back. Haven't used my debit card since and only use credit or cash.

Seems two of the bureaus now charge but was free for me before. Trans Union has it for free. Who knows if it's really any good but I figure if I do something others likely won't, I may not be picked off. Famous last words.

I think so. This is like what I mentioned before with Citi bank. Free Fico check when you have a CC with them.

Creditkarma does TransUnion and Equifax which tend to be lower than my free Fico from Discover. They all have their black magic ways of coming up with their number but they are all based on the same categories.

For those curious, you can get a free credit report annually from each bureau. It won't include a score but it's good to do so you aren't surprised one day. Www.annualcreditreport.com

By signing up for that protection thing in there, you are agreeing to waive your rights to join a class action suit. I did it anyway because class action suits suck and only benefit attorneys, but just an FYI.

I read that but good to put the info out there. What response did you get if you don't mind sharing?

Same as everyone else, my info was hacked. I guess, statistically, there's nothing to worry about. What are the chances they'll use my info out of the hundreds of millions? I was more curious than concerned.
