James Butler Eric Cyprus, there's no explosion potential from an in tank fuel pump because there is no oxygen, this is actually a potential for a fire. Not saying it will, just saying your example is not equal. People actually get fires from filet necks in cars from static sparks from human to car, it can happen
Rick Shaner Can happen but not likely
Greg Claughton James Butler there is oxygen in your fuel tank because it's vented to atmosphere-otherwise your tank would collapse
James Butler Greg Claughton, no, you're wrong. The gasoline is constantly evaporating and displacing all the air. Also only old gas tanks are vented, the only time you get oxygen in the tank is when you full it, but that is also displaced by the fuel
Greg Claughton James Butler if you think so
James Butler Greg Claughton, you may need to start learning before you call someone out, lol. Gasoline starts to vaporize at around -50°F, so it it's constantly giving off vapors. Those vapors displace the air. New gas tanks are not vented because we don't want raw hydrocarbons in the atmosphere and the tanks will frequently pull negative pressure, so that debunks your theory of a collapsed tank. Lol try again buddy
James Butler If you were correct, which you're not, then the gas tank would explode as soon as you had a low tank of fuel, uncovering the brushes in the pump, LMAO. Try again
Greg Claughton obviously you are an ex NASA engineer - so explain to me where the displaced oxygen goes if in fact the fuel is evaporating and also if the tank is not vented as you say what takes the place of the fuel when you use it up??
Greg Claughton you sir are an idiot
James Butler THERE IS NO OXYGEN, lmao. Low tank=full of gasoline vapor. Fill tank, small amount of oxygen gets in, most vapors displaced by liquid fuel rushing in=no oxygen. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air. Gasoline is essentially (not quite, but close=evaporating) boiling, and since it is heavier than air, as it evaporates it is displacing the air above it. And in your example of the vented tank, the air, that is above the gasoline liquid is being forced up and out of the "vent".
It is hilarious that the ACTUAL IDIOT, is calling me an idiot when he doesn't know WTF he is talking about. This is basic high school level education and is all EASILY found out on the internet. So next time you run your mouth, you may want to have some facts before you open it and prove yourself STUPID. Because ignorance is correctable, but stupidity is not, and you sir, are stupid
