So for months I've been looking for a long range gun. I found this, its a ruger precision bolt action 2nd gen rifle. It shoots a 6.5 creedmoor round which will travel 1400 yards. Being that it's a bolt action rifle, there are not to many nj compliant laws against it. The only thing I can't have is a flash suppressor. After I got the gun I found the vortex scope and hand grip I wanted. This thing is just awesome.

Gotta tell the njsp to give you guys some training, flash suppressors are perfectly legal on a bolt action
Nice purchase though, which vortex?

Looks good, I’ve been slowly building my own SPR out of second hand parts, while the Ruger is an awesome rifle for the price, the cost of glass blows me away. There’s plenty of legal breaks you can put on the end of that thing and be good to go!

.308 is a short bolt, no? I want to do a Lapua .338  but the barrel I want needs to have the chamber reamed and the threads cut to screw on the bolt carrier

Yea, short action.
$1 per round is much easier to handle than $2.5

Strange, I got it from shooters and I spoke with them about a flash suppressor for it, they informed me that the gun would not be NJ compliant, though any muzzle break wouldn't be a problem
the glass is a Vortex Viper PST 5-25x50

I'm going to start making my own rounds, and saving my brass. the initial start is costly but it makes it up quickly if you shoot a lot. you figure 3-4 fires on most brass, primer, powder, and projectile, plus the price of a press.

I have a press already, and I think it is tall enough to load .338 Lapua and I have a ton of .556 brass already, plus all the 9mm, .40 and .45 pistol brass.

My work schedule is the complete opposite of my friends and I tend to avoid the range on weekends or else I'd get out more. I'm a member at Cherry Ridge in North Jersey, we have a 200-300yd range which I'm dying to use, I just need a better spotting scope. I have an M1A Match that I'd like to practice more at distance, and I'm building a scoped 18" AR rifle that will also be competitive at distance.

Weds is the best day for Ft. Dix, usually empty and I can lay without being rained on with brass.

what happened in vegas was absolutely horrific. The reason why we have so many gun restrictions is because of people like Stephen Paddock. Its damn shame the many suffer because of the few that decide to go and use firearms on innocent people. its a shame because now "our right to bare arms" will be even more infringed upon

Won't get worse than it already is in NJ.
I believe you are a LEO, so start telling your bosses how lousy the 2A infringements are in this god awful state.

If you have the forms still, sign up for at least two or three pistol permits.
Its the same paperwork and the permits will be good for 90 days after you receive your FID.
For me, Howell takes 2-3 weeks to process.

Does it say anything about firearm ownership being a privilege? And see if your references have anything about privilege on theirs too

I still have about 55 days left on an extra pistol permit I was given when I applied for just one back in August. the local Police Chief where I live was nice enough to give me an extra one, and I have yet to decide what to buy with it. Since I get free ammo from work for training purposes, (for .40 cal and .38) I am planning on getting something that fires one of those. I already have a Glock model 27 that uses the .40 and for the .38 I have a S&W model 642 5 shot revolver, and another 6 shot revolver that was bought in 1980 by my wife's grandfather and never fired even once. Also have some other guns as well but I am thinking I would like something else .40 cal that I can carry off-duty and also on-duty at work. Probably in the $350-$600 range. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to PM me them, or post here, but my idea was NOT to sidetrack this thread in any way, shape or form. After that purchase, I need to budget for a larger gun safe, and after that an AR-15

Used/LEO trade in market is saturated with .40 these days. Its a crappy round to shoot if you can shoot 9mm
PolarBear
10-05-2017, 07:53 AM
I don't like shooting my .40, maybe it's just because it is an S&W Shield and has a really short barrel, but I don't like it
bigz28man

My off duty glock 23 .40 cal. I enjoy it's small enough to conceal but it's not to small...meaning it's got the right weight to it. My duty weapon (glock 23 .45) is just a hand cannon but has nearly no recoil.

Can it be pretty bad? Absolutely, tons of space guns. I run a pretty simple AR set up & my utilize my Marines kit. Which is just a good reinforced belt, a G-Code drop holster, three pistol mag pouches, one rifle mag pouch, and a dump pouch.
