Melissa, a member here as some of you know manages Island Dragway. For those of you not close with her, JCP&L whacked them with a general flat fee usage charge and their electric bill went up exponentially as a result. If you know anyone in high places either in utilities, or in news outlets to get action on this please spread the word.

I can likely get this to the right person but appears that may already be happening with the current publicity.

I think it would be cheaper to run construction rental lights and generators on diesel.

Right? Even if it cost the same or marginally more to do so, tell them to go **** themselves with the gesture. Hopefully the lost income would bring them to the negotiating table and find a middle ground.
I'm not familiar with the industry or the reasoning for the move, but from the article it sounds like there was no communication before the contract changed, and for that I share Island's anger.

Or, hell, place is open and big enough, erect some solar panels and try to offset night time usage

It was recommended but with the massive oversized septic that was required and a rainy spring it poses a budget problem, nor does it solve this immediate shortfall.

How can the bill only be $400 to $700 a month (not sure what they mean by the lights only). They must power more then then lights in the place.
Anyway Elon Musk will save the day ....

Solar panels won't help when the lights are needed (aka night time). The financials would be backwards as overproducing power during the day and selling back to the grid will net pennies for the energy. They would need to consider a solar panel system and battery storage to make it work. All of that is rather expensive. The solar could be done through a power purchase agreement but the battery pack situation comes with its host of costs/regulations, etc to make those not easily feasible.

Headlights/taillights are now needed to pass tech inspection.

Two out of three tracks in NJ being out of business possibly in the same year - you bet you will get some street racing as a result.
I was wondering if the Murphy administration is putting pressure on JCP&L to close places like this that don't fit into "the great plans" they are imposing on NJ. NJIT already pulled that sort of thing against frats and local residents to get more land to expand using the state and utilities as weapons.

It wouldn't surprise me, the guy is a huge POS...it amazes me how anyone voted for that assclown...but this is NJ where the residents aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the box. Then again what does that area stand to gain with Island shutting down? I don't know that area well and have only been to Island a handful of times, aren't they kind of in a remote area?
It sounds like Melissa is getting somewhere with the electric company, when I first saw the bill on Facebook my jaw dropped. I can only imagine what her true reaction was.
