View Full Version : Mass Liquidation - time for a new car

"New" car as in something that isnt 10 years old lol. I have 3 options
CTS-V v2
ATS-V
Chevy SS
I would love a V3 cts but it is not in my budget, so ats/chevy SS/v2 are in the budget. I feel like v2 has tons of aftermarket but is on the older side. ATS is tiny. The SS seems to be like a good answer. Roomy, v8, can get manual, ls3 (slap lsa blower on?).
Anyone own any of the 3 and have any input :bertstare:
Prob wont buy until october/next spring

Skip the ATS-V although I do think its neat. The sound doesn't do it for me and not the greatest aftermarket support.
- V2 and SS prices are going to hold for a good bit longer.
- V2 is a smaller car vs SS so weigh that in given your family needs.
- If going V2 or SS, get the newest car you can afford. I wouldn't get a SS without the mag ride which I believe was a 2015 and up option.
- V2s can be had with a manual too but you'll pay the premium.
- V2s are fairly solid but watch for mag shock leaks, condensation in headlight and blower rattle (extended warranty from GM should permit it to get replaced if it hasn't already)
- V2 interior is more dated and the black piano plastic scratches if you look at it funny. Plan to get those pieces wrapped
- V2 Recaros command a premium but I've heard mixed reviews on their comfort. Apparently there is a guide to adjusting the seat to get you comfortable and TBH....if I need a guide for my seats to be comfortable screw that. Std seats are comfy if you're OK not having Recaros. Keep in mind Recaros are heated/cooled vs std seats are heated only.
Given your growing family, I'd lean towards the SS for the extra space although depending on color/options, I prefer the V2. I have no idea what the market will do over the next year so you'll have to take your chances on that.

Ty for the input. That was where I was leaning. I did get to drive an ats-v and CTS-V v3 at those cadillac events and the ats was a blast to drive. Just small like you said.
SS colors I like the bright red/blue/light green. Seems like they are harder to get also and SS prices are close to msrp depending on the year/mileage. I'll make sure to get a 15+.

Yea I had a 17 ss and currently have a 16 ss with lsa. Both sticks. Ive owned 33 cars so far and the ss is by far the best. One with an lsa is the best of both worlds. Quiet in touring mode and a beast in sport or perf mode. Headers injectors and lsa is what my car has. Bought it as is. Only reason i got rid of my 17 is cause i hit a deer on 287 and totaled it. That one was stock. Id shoot for a 16 or 17 for sure. Prices r holding strong though. Leme know nethng u wama know

That's perfect then I think I got my answer lol. Thank you for the input. If you don't mind what did you pay for it since it had the blower and such on it?

I responded but looks like it didnt go thru. I paid 40k. Car had 12k miles and was garage kept and flawless from original owner. I thnk my cars worth 45k all day. I paid 42k for my stock 17 and insurance gave me 45k for it totaled. Geico was good abt it and knew what it was. My car has 20k miles now and some daily driver wear but I garage it nightly. If I didn't have kids I woulda kept my 6th gen camaro that I got off a member here. I plan on possibly getting a ct5 blackwing in stick when the used prices come down. Id like a v3 but prices are too high and auto is for the weak

That's a good price considering the market right now I think. Yeah v3 is expensive. I'm whatever with auto. Would not mind it considering when I commute again I sit in 287 traffic, plus remote start

i had a g8 gxp and miss the crap out of that car, would like an SS in the future, but be warned, just because its badged chevy, its still holden build quality, which kind of sucks.

do they have build issues? From what im reading they have been pretty reliable

IIRC suspension is usually needing some attention. I had a lower control arm that needed replacement under warranty which I think was pretty common.

anything holden has crap bushings/strut mounts. basically rubber components everywhere kind of suck. the g8 had weatherstripping issues too, not sure if those apply to the ss.
Dont get me started on gto build quality... fuel lines fired, bcm harness chaffing, water leaks, doors opening by themselves, tire/wheel vibrations....

welp. things happened, SS wasn't in the budget since we needed to pay for our decks, new water tank, and various other BS. I was sick of not being able to tow anything with the exploder.... Decided to get an 18 R/T Durango. Practically fully loaded, 28k miles. Drives a lot better than the exploder and I can tow ****. Ordered an AFE momentum GT intake, JLT catch can, and full weathertech floor mats.

Will be getting paint correction and ceramic coating next week. Will get BBS SR 18" wheels and blizzaks for the winter set, then when spring comes the stock wheels will get some summer based tires.
Few weeks before the Durango I picked up a 00 5speed TDI. old lady owned, really clean. Did tbelt and such, now needs a turbo actuator. Car is a fun daily and 50+ MPG sounds really nice. Got "long beach" wheels for it and threw on new tires since current ones were ****. i got half way done in the pic.

Jetta? No. TDI market exploded so I sold it for a huge profit. Durango, yes. Just tossed snows on it lol
