Looking for some sort of tow strap/rope to leave in trunk

Was thinking about the winter weather and felt like I should have some sort of recovery rope in my trunk Incase I pass someone stuck or a family member calls me and is stuck. I keep reading conflicting information about using d shackles also. Do people just use rope or 1 shackle or 2 shackles? I have a hitch so do I need a special pin or something to hook up to if I'm the one pulling someone out? All new to me.

Any recommendations on brands/products?

I don't think you need anything too special. The basics should do.
I personally like setups where the strap ends can be secured, rather than just holding on with a hook.

Hardest part is hooking up to something that can take the yank….and those straps are meant to stretch to help pull. Look up some off road recovery videos, should help give you the idea.

Yeah that is what I would be the most nervous about. I'll check them out for sure

Tow straps != recovery straps.

Don't yank on a tow strap. Its just for slow static pulls, which if someone is stuck in the snow will prob result in you spinning tires.

I would avoid any hooks, shackles etc, minimize the amount of metal **** that will be flying very fast if straps break.

If you do go for a proper kinetic recovery strap, decide on what weight you expect to actually using it for.

Honestly tho, a snow shovel, bag of sand and some of these would more realistically helpful.

Yeah that is what my research is showing. Didn't know there were different kinds of rope/straps till I watched some videos, so recovery rope it is.

I was afraid of that too which is why I was thinking to limit it to 1 shackle maybe on my end or just all rope since rope wont hurt as much as a big shackle.

I forgot about those grip tracks. not as fun as yanking someone out of a spot but definitely better in 2022 so I don't get sued

yaya. ok so boards or some fancy ropes. boards take up a lot more space is the only downside but they seem a lot easier to execute and a lot less risky
