View Full Version : Problem: Seat Belt Warning Light

I have a third gen that seems to have something wrong with the seat belt.... I'm not sure if it's the female (receiving) end of the seatbelt, but the red seatbelt light in the dash always seems to go on and off constantly during driving. There's a slight dinging... which is the normal noise but it's faint. And this usually occurs when I hit the slightest bumps. The light also comes on randomly too though.

I've seen kits to fix the seatbelt buttons.... but I'm not sure what's causing this. Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it? Should I just disconnect the warning light? Even though I'd rather find a solution.

I have the same problem. I just try to ignore it, but if there is a way to fix it, I am all ears.

You might have to pull the seat out and the carpet back a bit, but you should check the ground wire on the car side of the seatbelt plug. It's got a short screw going into the floor, probably by the seat bracket.

It could also be the little switch-like thing inside the buckle. Maybe try finding another buckle and swapping it in? Two minutes with a Torx 47 bit.

Did your car ever get the recall done? It applies to all third gens in which the seat belt receiver would become brittle. I doubt thats gunna fix your problem, but you never know.

You never heard about that? The red release button on the seat belts, over time due to sunlight exposure, will discolor to a pinkish color and become brittle. I belive that GM will still do it, but I doubut it on a 10 year old car.

Being that its a safetly recall, they are required to do it. If they dont in a quick manner, and dont do it for free, you should contact chevy or pontiac directly. And the NTSB or something like that..they enforce that stuff.
