i think it started with the prowler, then the pt cruiser, now the mustang, shelby cobra, and even the designs for what was to be the new camaro all went with a retro look...dont get me wrong if its done right i think retro cars can be great but out of those mentioned i think the cobra was the only one that actually pulls it off...the prowler has been underpowered since day 1 the cruiser is well the cruiser the new mustang looks like crap although the svt version will run the #...just seems like if you go retro you better be able to back it up...the mustang concept looked really good but the production model leaves alot to be disired. Anywayz rant off

it seems like they took the old lines and squared them off on a lot of the cars. very few cars lend themselves to that type of styling change.
the new charger is the closest to pulling it off that i have seen so far, and it has 1 line in its profile that looks out of place.
i think it has a lot to do with teh generation(most of our parents) that have reached or are getting near teh age of retirement. now that they have the time and money to enjoy themselves the car companies are trying to put out somethign familiar for them to gobble up, of course updatred with every digital do-dad adn gizmo they can pack into the thing whiel jacking up the price :)

I love the old cars, but the retro look with new cars will not sell. Look at the T-bird. I think a retro Camaro would be cool, but it's not going to sell more cars than a whole new design would.

sure, pick the lemon from the group.
there are a ton of beetles on the road, as there are pt cruisers, prowlers, cooper minis and i imagine there will be as many if not more mustangs.
the t-bird failed. i can't tell you why, because i am not that familiar with their story. but of all of the retro cars on the market, and on the road, you can't tell me that retro will not sell merely because of one failed experiment.
did anyone see the radical retro-styling of the corvette (prototype, only one exists)? love it or hate it, there is no in-between. but it would make for a helluva trim package for the current year vette (as in, in addition to the base styling). and it would most likely boost their sales, as it would add people to the list who want a vette, not detract from their regular customer.

The Camaro will NOT be retro-styled. Hell, its not even called a Camaro right now, its just Chevy coupe. It will be agressive, but with ZERO pictures of the acutal product, and we probably wont start seeing them for some time (wait for zeta to start production), then I doubt we will know anything about its appearance, but I can say that it wont be retro.
Retro is good for a small niche market, like the SSR and Prowler. The PT and Beetle have noticed slow sales, but compared to what they were selling at in first release, they dont even come near that level. I remember there being a 6 month waiting list for teh PT.
Now, the Mustang, IMO, will break the mold, and Ill tell you why. Outside of Ford, literaly, making it a turd with wheels, I think that it will sell no matter what.
For some reason, people went with the Mustang GT, when for just about the same price, you could get a Z28? Why? Cause its a Mustang. Its handling, its ride, its stature, its position of the shifter, its lack of rear seat room...all horrible compared to the 4th gen...yet still BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF BOTH FBODIES!
This is why I think Ford will sell many of the, and I think GM is counting on it.
Even the 300C is quazi-retro with its name, badging, design, and "mythical" engine.
Chevy is adding more juice, and a stick to the SSR, so whatever people didnt like about its "lack of power", its all gone now witha 390hp, hand built LS2 with T-56. This combo will be seen in the TBlazer, as well as the Silvy. Steering and suspension has also been revised. It is now the hottest hard top vert under 50k.
What I dont understand is Chevy's go-ahead on the HHR, or Heritage High Roof based off the original Suburban. Its is a PT for Chevy. Its made the same way, using the same formula...wtf is Chevy thinking? Spend that money on the Cobalt! Or use it to make a Pontiac replacement for the sunfire.

Cause a 454 making 250hp is so much better
You will be able to get a 400hp LS2 and T-56 6spd in a short bed, standard cab, 2wd, 1500 Silvy SS MY06. You will also be able to get the same in the Trailblazer...but I said that already.

yah and they will charge probably $40 grand for a motor that probably costs them the same price to build as the 5.3 or 6.0 motor thats in there now  then load it down with a bunch of crap meaning it will run mid 14's and still not be competitive with the lightning. :supergay:

I wouldnt go that far. The Silvy 1500 will probably weigh about the same, if not lighter then the L, and probably run about the same times as the L. SSR might be a tick or 2 slower, but the "390hp" *cough*400*cough* LS2 with 405 ftlbs will probably move the SS Silvy 1500 pretty good. And 6spd manual is pretty damn cool as well.

I like the Gibb's version of the SS with the supercharger. But it's still only using the 4.8L engine with the manual trans.

I was just kidding abotu the 454SS deal. I always wanted one of thoes trucks. I was actualy thinking of finding my own 5.3 liter, short bed, standard cab 2wd 1500 silvy before the Maxx...but Im not a truck guy.
The L is reported to have 0348203840234 different engines ranging from 420-550hp.
Cobra is said to have a N/A 450hp 5.4 V8. Yes, no more supercharger. Ive heard that both the Cobra and L were gunna get the GT motor...which if you have ever seen the GT motor, you would laugh. They had to moddify a F-350 to do the engine testing on the GT's motor.
Anyway, the Gibbs truck is nice, and you can get a "Texas" truck if you live in...you guessed it...Texas. Its a 1500 Silvy with 2wd using the 6.0 H.O. motor.
