#1 is awesome, but i don't see how that will lend itself to bumper stickers or other media. it's a very cool logo, as far as logos go, and would look really cool on a t-shirt.

#2 has been done before (i think) - not a bad idea, but something about it seems very familiar.

#3, #4 are awesome. i prefer #3 because it's easier to read, and would lend itself to just about any media. the print would be hard to read on a bumper sticker, but with the space it takes up it would be easy to slide something in on the rest of the sticker. i voted for #3.

#5 thank you for including this one, and although it is simple in nature and easily transferrable to whatever media, i don't think it stands a chance against #3. if it does win, my ego will be so big none of you will be able to stand in the same room with me... ;)

#1 would defenitly kick ass on the back of a T-shirt, especially a black one.

P.S im working on something with my boss at work, and I may be able to get T-shirts done, but I dont know for sure what the discount cost will be, since Im an employee, and the shirts are sent out to an outside company, that we have an account with.

(p.s that means the shirts will be cheap 8) )

did you get my entry?

maybe i'm a little confused on this. were you looking for just a logo for the top of the board here or an overall site emblem?? i did my entry based on it fitting in the area above in the color scheme of the board and it doesn't look like that was a consideration in your decision for top 5.

edit:

"We are trying to come up with a logo for the site. At this time we are not allowed to use any GM copyrighted logo, so please try to keep them out of your design. The logo will be displayed at approximately 250 pixels wide x 100 pixels high, so test your designs at that size. Please submit your designs in .jpg or .gif format, and keep them to no more than two colors plus a background. The designs will be printed on either white or light gray t-shirts, so plan accordingly.

Please submit your original designs to me via e-mail.

The last day to submit designs is September 10, 2004. On September 18, 2004 we will post a poll in the Lounge with our choice of the five cleanest designs. Voting will end on Setember 24, 2004. The winner will be posted on September 25, 2004. The winner will receive a free t-shirt with his/her logo on it.

- Justin"

nevermind, i found this. I was just making something to fill the banner area up top. Since you're looking for something for a t-shirt as well, I can definitely see why my design wouldn't fit the bill.

ah well, if anyone wants to see mine, here it is mocked into the top of the page:

http://www.poorformance.net/upload/design.jpg

for my vote, i definitely like the firebird melting into the bowtie idea. I think that's pretty damn cool and with a little more polish, it would look stellar on a tshirt, etc 8)

#3 and # 1 would look good on a t-shirt, with a small #3 on the chest and a big #1 in the back.

i like talking goat's website logo design best though.

I also really like TalkingGoat's design.

Unfortunatly, using a picture of an actual car (even though you may be the person, or know the person who owns it) is in violation of copyright.

That's why so many of the logos that were submitted were not offered for voting.

those cars are owned by 3 members of this site. i don't see why that would be a problem at all given those people approved the design. i think you're taking the copyright argument too far. I mean if you really wanted to overanalyze it, then how is 50% of the chevy bowtie and firebird symbol acceptable? I'm sure someone owns the likeness of the state of nj too like in the first logo. hell even the font faces in any text in a graphic are owned by someone as well. yes i can certainly understand wanting to avoid usage of the gm bowtie and pontiac arrow, etc, but taking it 10 levels further is probably overkill imo.

the problem is not the members who own teh cars approving, it is GM.
a few years ago a mustang club got into it with ford over soemthing similar, we are trying to avoid that.
we are not picking a design that will be used for the rest of forever, we are picking a logo to use on the site and on t-shirts. the plan is no more elaborate than that.
we already have the contact information of the people at GM we have to speak with to attain permission to use logo and images without paying teh $10k per image/logo fee they charge. if we can get that permission(which is very likely) then we can move on to using logos, cars, and images that were produced by gm.
the logo concept that is picked will be used on t-shirts and the site until a lot of peopel woudl liek to see womethign fresh or we get permission and we can have an all out redesign.

all of the logos are really awesome, but i'd be a bit careful with fonts. logo four's font would blur if printed on a t shirt, unless it was printed very largely. logo three's font would need to be a bit taller, stretch out a bit, so that smearing or blurring wouldn't occur either. Don't get white t-shirts either, you can see right through them, unless you want to pay a few more bucks to get some really good quality t-shirts. but if you get a color, (blue or black might be good) then it won't be a problem. and as always, the less colors you have, the cheaper it is to print. I also know where you can get them done, (and the reason i know all of this stuff about it) from Bud Gough at Gough Engraving. He's got reasonable prices, and he does a great job.

i like scorpions idea for having 3 and 1 on a shirt, and number 3 as the bumper/windshield sticker, #3 would be badass blown up huge over the rear window

Only looks blured because it's a resized .jpg file. The full scale photoshop image is perfect

Yea, I know that more color would be better looking, but there is a $35ish per color setup fee for most T-shirt places.

Sites like camaroz28.com and many others have had actual pictures of cars for years. Putting cars on cardomain would be infringing on copyright then, if you think about it. Your not making any kind of profit off this site or the use of those pictures are you? Besides, GM does not own my car, I do. I say go with something that has cars on it.

btw for the last one, the site is .org not .com :(

Several places have used actual cars on T-shirts, and many of them have gotten in trouble for it. Look at what happened on TGO a while back. Car Domain is legal because it is just a webspace for people to show off their cars. If we used actual cars in a logo, that would be copyright infrigement because GM has copyrighted the likeness of every car it produces.

Basically:

Look at my pretty car = OK
Look at my car that has become a copyrighted logo for this website = not OK

btw for the last one, the site is .org not .com :(

DOH! Wow, don't know how we missed that one......

nothing gets by you, does it? ;)

Basically:

Look at my pretty car = OK

which is what it all boils down to. trying to copyright someone else's copyrighted material can land you in court. i wonder how strict they would be about it now, though, with the demise of the f-bodies. no, i don't want to be the one to test it... ;)

about this whole copyright issue...how is it then you have cars on the flyers? wouldnt that be some sort of infringment?

No - the flyers pretty much fall under the "Oh - look at my pretty car" catagory. The T-shirts are being sold.

the thing i dont get is why cant people jsut listen to what the admins want for a change. People bickering about this and that and oh who acres about the copyrights and we should have cars in the logo need to relax. there are admins of this site for a reason and since they dont want any cars in the design guess what no cars in the design till we get an ok to put them in. granted a logo with a car you can do more with and make it look probably a million times better then a black and white logo but we cant do it. Not yet so lets all just drop the subject and wait.

*end of rant please continue.

Like Justin posted earlier, they are trying to keep the colors to a min. As the more colors that are involved in a logo to more it will cost to have shirts made up. They want to try to make shirts affordable for everyone to own, yet to stand out and show what kind of potentail this org. can offer.

just out of curiosity, and not to drag this thing out forever, but i wonder what the reaction would be to this:

http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Sep/20049207543246700186512.jpg

or this:
http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Sep/20049208122491461839012.jpg

or, even, this:
http://mediaservice.photoisland.com/auction/Sep/20049201122581284424506.jpg

i mean, it's clear what they are, but since they are produced without using an actual car or image of a car and done 'by hand', would they be considered original artwork and thereby able to copyright? no, they are not mine so don't use them for anything that you might consider copyrighting, and no, i don't know who the original owner is in order to ask permission to use them.

i agree that the admins have made a decision here, but i don't feel like this place is a stuffy monarchy where one cannot express one's opinion. quite the opposite, in fact, as on several occasions my opinion has been solicited and encouraged. no, i am not trying to start an argument, just posting an alternate point of view. :D

Tru2Chevy

It is my understanding that pictures of the type that are posted directly above (thanks Jim) are allowed to be used in a logo/T-shirt design, as long as they do not have any GM logos on them (so no Camaro script on that 1st gen fender).

I'm sorry that this has turned into a huge debate. I know that chances are slim that we would be caught using a logo that is copyrighted by GM, however Tim and I do not want to take that chance. We don't mean to sound like a "stuffy monarchy", however it's our names that are on all the paperwork, and we would be the ones hauled to court if we were caught.

Thanks to everyone for understanding.
