RAMALLAH, West Bank - Yasser Arafat (news - web sites), who triumphantly forced his people's plight into the world spotlight but failed to achieve his lifelong quest for Palestinian statehood, died Thursday at age 75.

The French military hospital where he had been treated for nearly a month said he died at 3:30 a.m. The Palestinian leader spent his final days there in a coma.

good riddance, I say. That little weasel has been nothing but a pain in the ass. I hope his successor will stem the tide of Palestinian terrorism...but I doubt it.

This is not good news. Now we will have the terorist cells run themselves with no leadership or anyone to talk them out of doing anything.

This is BAD news. Its like capturing Saddam. Yeah, we stopped his goverment...now the country is in shambles and there are tons of rebels running around, killing US troops.

Im with bigal on this one. At least they all answered to him. At least almost every bombing in israel by palistinians could be somehow tied back to him. At least on the rare occasion when he told the PLO to stop their bombings, they usually listened.

Hamas and a dozen other terrorist organizations didn't listen to him. They did whatever they damn well pleased. Arafat was a waste of life. He only made things worse, both for his people and the Israelis. It's good that he's out of the picture.

Killing, it's not just for breakfast anymore. Arafat dies, Arafat lives, the sun goes up, the sun goes down, and humans never learn that dead is dead, and there's nothing deader than dead. Whatever scenario you pick, the act of humans killing humans for one half-baked cause or another, will continue. Maybe, but highly unlikely, but maybe, one day humans will figure out that killing for a cause, or for whatever other reason, doesn't solve a thing.

Three men can keep a secret if two are dead.

Eliminating human life for a cause only works if the opposition is totally wiped out, or at least reduced to a state where rebellion in the future is not possible.

Unfortunately, for most governments and religious organizations, this is still a practical solution to their needs.

That Terrorist was so annoying. Only ONCE in his life did he condone terrorism. When he did the US had to ask him to clearafy what he mumbled. We thought he said "tourism." lol
What a wall, that's all I can say about that man. He had the power to build a nation and completely blew it. I pity the people that looked up to him.
Here's something to chew for all you left winged bush haters;

“[I] thought the president had an absolute responsibility to go to the U.N. and say, ‘Look, guys, after 9/11, you have got to demand that Saddam Hussein lets us finish the inspection process.’ You couldn’t responsibly ignore [the possibility that] a tyrant had these stocks, Clinton disclosed in the interview – part of the media blitz hyping his new book “My Life, due out Tuesday.

Clinton added that Bush’s first priority was to keep al-Qaeda and other terrorist networks from obtaining “chemical and biological weapons or small amounts of fissile material.

“That’s why I supported the Iraq thing. There was a lot of stuff unaccounted for, Clinton said, referring to U.N. weapons inspectors leaving the country in 1998.

"I never really thought Hussein would use his weapons but did worry that Iraqi weapons might be sold or given away, Clinton added."

So, ummmm, do you think that YOU know more than Bill Clinton, who was, ummmm, like, president?

Wouldn't try to second guess Clinton, just not crazy about this human concept of blowing each other to bits, for whatever reason one party or the other comes up with. And yes, Arafat certainly blew a golden opportunity to prove that working together accomplishes much more than war, which accomplishes nothing, other than to feed the worm population.

Wonder if any of the remaining crazies he spawned, will ever figure out what Arafat had in his hands, and let slip away.
