long article.
idk if it will mean the return of the F-body. I've heard rumors of a rally-bred Cobalt, turbo'd and AWD, to jump into the field with the WRX and Evo. We've all heard rumors of other cars as well, like the Chevelle.
If GM had any brains, they'd bring the F-body (or some iteration of it) back first. If they price it right, I think it would fly out of showrooms.

Well, I dont know about Cobalt going AWD, but the Astra, the Cobalts European cousin, could and should enter WRC as it is more popular over there then here. IMO, the Astra is an awesome looking car, and I wish Pontiac would bring the design over here and use it to replace the horrible sunfire and wind-up Vibe. Both 3 and 5dr hatches, while Chevy has the 2 and 4dr cars.

Maybe you do, but maybe you dont, but we already have it here, with more power to boot. And for cheaper.

Ah, well here is some food for thought...
The next generation of Holdens are going to be based off Zeta, or known to our Aussie friends, VE.
Many people inside GM, like Bob Lutz aka The Man, like the Holden cars, and one of the reasons why Lutz brought the Monaro here.
Well, this new chassis has peeked GM North America's interest. GM NA has worked with Holden in designing the Zeta chassis, and GM NA will make there own version of it here.
One of the Oshawa plants, the plant where the W bodies are made (Grand Prix, Impala, Monte, LaCrosse) is getting a mega-buck dollar upgrade to start production of this Zeta car. There will be many Zeta plants across the world. The Holden plant is going to start with VE in 07, and there will be plants in North America, China/Korea, and perhaps Europe.
VE chassis will give us cars just like the present sized Holdens. VE/Zeta is very flexable and can be played with to make a small 2dr coupe to a large 4dr sedan or 5dr wagon.
Anyway, I dont want to go too far into this, but its pretty silly to think that Pontiac wont have a Zeta sedan. Buick is said to be first in MY07, and the GTO will probably be ready to go as well. There is also much talk of the Monaro being made here in North America. Therefor, America would make the coupes, and we could exchange the Monaro for...perhaps...the Ute?

the sunfire is on it's way out, and the Vibe is tied to Toyota's Matrix.

Sunfire will be here indeffinatly, and the Vibe will be here, but GM can get rid of a 20 year old model, and tell Toyota to go screw with the Astra.

none of this leads us any closer to the camaro. you can speculate all you want, but until i see one in a showroom or an order book from chevrolet, it's all pie in the sky thinking.
they got rid of the camaro/firebird in order to get out of the st therese plant. they can claim lagging sales all they want, but to have another country's union holding you over a barrel cannot be fun for any corporation - certainly not one that is scratching and clawing for market share the way chevy is.
all of those people who believed that the japs made a better car cannot now be lamenting the loss of the camaro (those of you with a jap car and a camaro in your driveway are the worst offenders). it's cause and effect. we dumped billions of dollars in car sales overseas, which may have made the big three wake up and smell the coffee, but it led to a lot of belt tightening, as well. they are thinking of other markets now - not the old front engine, rear drive platform like the "antiquated" camaro. smaller, leaner, more nimble and better handling cars. it's not like a camaro couldn't possibly come out of this equation, but thinking it's the only thing that can come out of it is absurd. and the poor firebird lovers will spend eternity pissed off at GM. :D

from what i hear, when the cobalt shows up and replaces the cavalier, the sunfire will disappear. good riddance, i say. open up some room for a decent entry-level car in Pontiac's lineup.

Nope, Sunfire will remain in production. Only Canada and Mexico are getting a Delta based Pontiac called Pursuit or G4 respectivly.
