View Full Version : Unfortunately, gave up hope...
Got home from work today... felt great, got done early and no overtime, so I decide to finish my trunk up in the TA. Over by the wheel well inside on the right (where the doughnut rim is suppose to sit), I discovered a massive amount of rust and behind it towards the passenger seat, I noticed more bondo then Ive ever imagined. Steam is flowing out the ears as I run in my garage to get some Silver Wheel coating to possibly cover it up... no good. I inspect the rear quarter panel on the passenger side and noticed its twisted out and looks almost "warped" compared to the other side. And thats the reason my trunk is leaking, because the left side of the hatch when closed has less than an 1/8th inch gap and opposite side has little about a half inch. So, ***** it, I gave up hope. Ill most likely sell it locally.... or part it out. Not sure... the guy, ((that told me it was never in an accident)), who sold me the car... will expect a food drive of canned cranberry sauce to be massively topedo'd towards his house on T-day. Damn Im pissed

Doenst look one bit repairable?
I had a rust spot in the same location, I think its really super common. I would start with trying to adjust the hatch (use two people) And if that doenst fix anything, replace the seals.
I wouldnt totally give up on it yet.

If its the same year as yours, it has the glass breaklight (it does)... i dunno what I want to do with it yet. I just might wanna spend my money on a pre-built thirdgen camaro or TA/Formula... Me kicking the car a couple of times didnt solve the problem tho...
Sunday, before Kasey came over, I "customized" my hatch pull down... I drilled out 2 holes and held it in place (lol)...
Every side of this car (xcept drivers) has been hit... (I got in an accident with the front end)... so everything sits unbelievably crooked... Does anybody maybe know where I can find a place that'll allign and fix everything??? Like weatherstripping and allignment??? Id appreciate it...

The weatherstripping is a DIY job; time consuming, but totally do-able at home. Aligning the body panels can be a big PITA. Was the damage done to your frontend only cosmetic, or were the strut towers or core support bent? If so, it probably needs to go on a frame machine first, then have the bodyshop realign all the panels. I'd leave it alone until it's time for paint tho, unless you have a major issue with a door not closing or something.

I definately didn't see that one! Sucks man that you found even more rust/bondo, does that kid who you get parts from have any body panels?

if its that messed up and rusty and you want to drop some cash on a serious motor...i would try and find another car with no rust and a straight body...

:stupid:
if the car's really that rusty and bent out of shape, i'd get another car to start off with a better starting platform. that way it won't fall apart on you later on and you can just dump money into the motor and not worry about bodywork to be done 8)

Another idea, if you think its that bad, find another firebird, even if its a v6, and strip everything thats good off your T/A and rebuild another one.

:stupid: , Alex not Karl
well, if you do decide to move onto another car, i am looking to buy a total of 3 parts cars, wrecks, etc within the next month. Strip off whatever parts you want and i'll buy the remainder if the price is right. however, take your time to decide what you want to do but just keep me in mind. -Paul
