Ive had this problem ever since I got my car, Ill explain in a sec. A quick little background the day after I bought it... I pop the hood and get a closer look... and theres a Snapper riding mower battery there  ... so I yank it out and put a BRAND NEW BATTERY in there. It ran fine for a month or so, and drained completely dead... Sears (where I got it from) said it had a bad cell or something... So I put a used car battery from my 85' FB V6 (parts car) in there... ran fine for about a month and the same problem happened. So i got tired of it, and threw in a battery from my dads Ford E350 Turbo Diesel truck with 7000 cranking amps... then a few days after that, put in a new starter... worked fine for about 4 months until I needed a new altenator (about 2 months ago)... now the problem persists yet again... My car stopped in my g/f's driveway and wouldnt start... the positive terminal off the battery smokes when I try to crank. So I went to jumpstart it and made this loud loud fast clicking noise but wouldnt start... the fuel pump is fine, carb is fine... everything is fine except for this electrical problem I have. Maybe someone can help me out or someone knows of a place that can look over my car and tell me wtf is wrong with it?? Im already pissed about the rusted/bondoed trunk so my patience with this car is very very low. If this crisis doesnt stop, my car will need Maaco to remove the Nike imprints across the front end...

first, Â*make sure your alt is good, and get a new battery. a bad battery can ruin an alternator and vice versa, so if one goes bad, the other will soon follow. Â*witht he car off, chekc the batt voltage should be around 12.1, then when its runnign, check the voltage comign off the alternator, should be 14-14.5 volts, and also chekc at the battery, it should be very close to the reading at the alt. any more than 14.5 and thats a big problem. also check the battery wires and terminal for corrosion, if they're really bad, replace them or clean them very well. Â*Also, just to be on the safe side, check the electrical system for a drain when the car is off. i know it doesnt sound like a drain but check anyway. Â*disconnect the neg battery terminal and put a test light between the neg cable and the neg terminal, if it lights, there is a drain. Â*try pulling fuses until they ligh goes out, once it does, you know what circuit is causing the drain. Â*All in all, it sounds like just bad luck. Â*batteries have 6 cells , 2 volts each. Â*if one cell shorts out, the battery will test at right around 10 volts and will nto be able to start a car and is also very hard to jump start. Â*I just helped karl, speakersgoboom, with a similar problem, car wouldnt crank or anything, even when jumped, all it turned out to be was the battery. Â*so get a volt meter and get to work and i hope you find the problem. good luck.
