Private Message Notification?

Is there someplace that notifys me of a private message when I have one sitting in my Inbox? I just clicked on 'Messages' today to see I had an unanswered message in my Inbox. Am I missing something? :?:

i know if you got to profile you can choose to have an email sent to you or you can have a window pop up... i have both selected... and i dont always get both... or one or the other for that matter...
