View Full Version : Anyone know about truck lift block design?

I am lifting my truck another 2 inches and am going to have new blocks fabricated for the back cause I know a guy who will do it cheap instead of me paying a lot from an aftermarket company. I know the dimensions of the block and the angle I want cut into it to correct my driveshaft angle.
What I don't know is about the holes that are supposed to be in it.....I think? There is a bolt coming up through my leaf pack and I'm assuming it must go into the top of the block on the other end. Does the bolt just sit into the top of the block or does it go all the way through from the bottom? There's also a bolt that goes into the bottom right? How deep are each of the holes if it isn't one that goes all the way through? I need to get these done ASAP so I can get tires and alignment next week. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I put 1" lift blocks on the back of my 4Runner since they all sag over time. The blocks came with a hole in the center and the centering bolt. The bolt doesn't go all the way through but the hole does. The centering bolt in the block will position the block in the spring pad correctly and then the centering bolt in the springs will sit in the hole on the block to position it correctly. You should need longer U-bolts to hold the springs to the axle. When you get up to 3" lift blocks or higher, I'm not 100% sure if they use a single centering bolt that goes through the block and springs, but I doubt it.

I know there is only 1 bolt from the block through the springs....not sure about underneath. Now the bolts aren't part of the block right? The one on top just sits in there and the same with the one on the bottom (spring pad side)? Does the one on the bottom thread into the block or is it just held by threads on the pad? I would love to just pull one of my 4in. blocks out tonight and look, but it's freezing out!
I think I have enough thread left on my u-bolts to prevent me from having to replace them.

My lift blocks have threads and the short centering bolt that came with them threads into the lift block and the bolt is what centers the block on the spring perch. Nothing threads into the spring perch. I would be scared to death to run 6" worth of lift blocks! Get some lift springs and shorter blocks for safety. Stacking lift blocks seems like a bad idea specially since they aren't physically connected. You would have 3 places that aren't connected that could lead to failure. Block to perch, block to block, spring to block.

I'm not stacking blocks....I'm getting a 6" solid block made to replace my 4". I'm still confused no the locating pins though...I must be a little slow today.
So the top end has the bolt threaded into it and the bottom has nothing?
I'm confused because my bolt that comes out of the top of the block goes through the springs now, but the nut is actually molded into the spring if I remember correctly....so there is no way to tighten it from the top.
I'd like to eventually get bigger springs, it's just not in the budget right now. I need to get new tires and alignment next week. That's gonna be $700.

My lift blocks/spring might be opposite of yours so I'll go out and check them at lunch time.

Thanks Jeff....I decided to just order a set of 5.5" blocks instead of going through the trouble of having a set fabbed up. I think that should get me level. Damned independent front suspension is keeping me from going any higher anyway. My cv axles are really close to binding up at this point so I can't push it any further. I should have 6 inches in my suspension when I'm done plus my 35's.
Now I can get tires and an alignment next week.

I'm just running 32's on my 4Runner and that's with basically the stock suspension. The rear springs sag on the the 4Runners so you need to get them back up to stock height or a little more. I've used add-a-leafs in the past and they work great for about 2 to 2-1/2" of lift. But then you need to crank up the torsion bars to about the limit to level the truck. I decided to go with 1" blocks to lift the rear back up instead so I wouldn't have to crank up the torsion bars.
what type of truck are you lifting? i have a 96 bronco thats getting the lift/wheel/tire setup off my 82 bronco. Right now my 82 has a 6" skyjacker lift and is sitting on 40's. looks nice. however it has like 4" worth of rear block lift. I'm going to have full 6" rear leaf springs made and get rid of the blocks. Im also putting a 3" body lift on the 96(the 82 has stock body mounts), The setup should work good, the ford IFS is a little annoying but not horrible. If you want to do serious offroading i'd suggest getting full leaf springs since the blocks could slip out in extreme situations. My springs should cost around 200 or less for the pair and the place is in north jersey. ill let you know exactl price and location after i get it done if youd be interested.

The truck is a 1997 Chevy K1500 Silverado. I don't do much off roading with it so I'm not too concerned with the blocks slipping out. Maybe I'll eventually change to springs. For now though money is tight so I'm going with blocks.

i have a buddy with 38.5 inch boggers and a 10 inch lift on his early 80s chevy and he was going down the road when he had his 5 inch blocks in and they broke just from the stress so he ended up getting the springs and going back to 1.5 inch blocks plus its easier to get pass inspection without blocks we know a few places to go off roading though that are nice i took my little dakota through and the trails are nice my buddy got his truck stuck in this big swamp and we had to push him out but we banned the lift blocks after his axle fell off while he was goin down the road and he wishes he had just gotten the springs in the first place
