i want to get a street bike but dont want to get rid of my dirt bike so i have come up with a solution im gonna turn my dirtbike into a street bike i have a 1990 cr 250 two stroke bored 90 over and has a new crank and rod fmf pipe reeds and a bunch of other little **** stock i put out 52 horse power and weigh approx 375 pound with me on it but according to my calculations i should be putting out close to 70 horses so i know i can keep up with any car on the street and can blow right past harlys so once im done it should be pretty cool to ride around and you can beet that power to weight ratio my main goal is to get done by the end of winter i ordered most of the parts and they should be here soon look for me down at the track in the spring in my leathers on ill be the only one there with a dirt bike

engine needs to be a certain cc to be able to put on the road, not sure what though, now the usual you get from an enduro parts bike, headlight, tailight, turn signals...obviously need DOT dual purpose tires...would be easier...possibly cheaper to just buy a crappy old street bike...

I can't remember the details but there is a federal law prohibiting 2-strokes displacing more than 100 (or is it 125) cc's from being street legal. You'll get the it impounded, and that isn't cheap. Talk to Bill now that he works for the NJ DOT, or just call up the DMV and ask them.
I wouldn't bother putting a loud 2-stroke on the road. Just get a 4-stroke 250 for starters. The resale on a good running street 250 is rather good! Then when (if) you feel like an upgrade later on go with a 600 :) . The Honda CBR series are good deals, cheap to rebuild too, done my fare.
