Is there a good method for jacking up a car and putting it on stands, on a sloped driveway? It's not a severe slope, but a noticable one. If the car was left in neutral, it would roll.

Or, is this just an accident waiting to happen?

Dave,
If you HAVE to do it then put the jackstands on the upper side of the slope and find a way to block off the other wheels. I would HIGHLY suggest you get a set of ramps instead though.

So if I set the downslope tires on the ramps, I just chalk the upslope wheels? I'm trying to go for a level car (as level as possible) on a sloped driveway.

That's what I would do, but I'd still suggest finding level ground if possible. What exactly are you going to be doing under the car?

i had my 89 formula on 4 jackstands w/o wheels on it for about a week on a sloped driveway that you can't push a car up  it can be done

Yes! Jon says it can be done!!! *feels better*

Honestly I'm thinking on the logistics of restoring a car in my driveway. I've gotten really close to buying one of three cars, giving me the resto bug again. So after contemplating my tools and my driveway, I'm concerned about two things:

1. A sloping driveway allowing me access to the underside
2. An engine hoist / stand should it be required. I dont own either of those.

If ramps solve problem number one, I'll just have to contemplate a used set of the others to keep costs low.

Dave I have an engine hoist that I could always bring over if you needed one for a day or two. Unfortunately I'm using both my engine stands right now or I'd let you borrow one of those.

if you need to get the car up you can always throw one end on the ramps and use a jack to get the other end to a point where the car is level with the groun...then using jackstands set at that hight, you will have no problems...but like i said i left my formula on 4 jackstands at the same hight on a sloped driveway for a week and even saw my 12 yr old brother run into it at one point(which i kicked his ass for) but the car still didnt budge

1000lb engine stands brand new on ebay, around 48 bucks after shipping, works like an engine stand should for me, lol

You've bought one of those stands? After looking at them, there are the combo packages for both hoist and stand. Cheap price looks good, but is it also cheap construction? There are a few things you just can't drop onto concrete, and I'd rather know that the items will save me from spending much more on new heads because the stand broke.

Any experience with these ebay stand specials?
