Anyone ever build a shed?

I finally realized i need a shed to store all the random parts i have, I cant even walk through my garage anymore, its that bad. I have the room on my property, i just havent looked into building a shed really yet. I know what size i want, about 10' deep and 16' wide, 6' high walls. ok so its a decent size, bigger than my room, lol. I just need to see about local laws etc. I know my neighbors wont mind cuz itll clean up my yard and look nicer. but what i want to know... is it a bitch to build a shed or easy. I would be doing it all myself, no kit or plans. I'd design it before had to what i want. :twisted:

Not 100% sure, but I think Home Depot sells Shed Kits, and they have all the parts to make one yourself.

i helped my dad build a shed b4... its pretty easy and it came out nice. heh i got scared doing the shingles on the roof cuz im afraid of heights. but check. u may need a building permit. i think theyre like less then a 100 bucks... but its better then the fine if u do get caught. i dont mind helping out since i have before if you dont mind picking me up... just tell me when.

my dad has and id say it would probably take two weekends
if you need any help i would probably be able to because ive been doing al sorts of stuff like that since i was little
i think you only need a permet if its perminat like on concrete cause i dont remember gettin one for mine when it was put up but that was one i bought at an amish market in williamstown.
mines sittin on like 6x6 pieces of wood

yeah i think alex is right...i go to home depot all the time with my uncle and i always see toll shed kist...they come with everything u need, except the tools...not 100% sure if you need a permit

building a shed is easy, im 99% sure you dont need any permits, you just have to have a paper signed by your neighbors stating they dont mind it just incase in the future they try to say something to the city about it you show the city the paper n the neighbors cant do squat....i would recomend to buy a shed nor a kit, here such a rip off yea they look fancy but they **** for the money, if you need the help id be more then glad to help you a hand i know more about construction the i do about cars :( ...and i do have all the tool to make it happen so if you need the help just shoot me a PM

just use your landscaper permit if need be :lol:
dont think it'd be too hard, just potentially time consuming.

ok, i'm going to look into permits within the next few weeks. Â*I think in my town i do need one, hell i know i need one if i want to put up any size fence. I also have to look into taxes for it, since i know any structure gets taxes charged, but it may be different if its not with a foundation. Â*Plus I probably wouldnt get around to building anything till at least Feb. Â*I have some power tools and i pay cost for lumber and supplies so thats not a big deal. Â*hell, its 4 walls, a floor and a roof, thats not too hard. Â*Once I know what i have to do legally and all, i'll be sure to ask for help, i'd even provide food and drinks, haha. Â* Cuz i look at it as i build a shed for storage or i have to find warehouse space to rent(which i wanted to do along with a few friends, but that hasnt happened yet)

..yeah permits are stupid its like if you have a post cemented into the ground in any sorta of way, theres gunna need to be a building inspector n permits and if anythign is attached to your house you can bet you need more permits then building material

I think if you poor a cement slab for the floor your taxes will go up.

Yes you will need permits, and will have to get it inspected :( As for the base you can probably use sonotube and cement for the base and build up off that. Its kinda like a deck with walls and a roof :) I would make sure what your town requires as to how far the supports need to be in the ground, and any other ordinances they may have before designing it.

haha my dads shed isnt cemented to the ground... it has a floor yea. but its just wood. with a few beems going across underneath.

yes, but its better to have it off the ground a little so it doesn't sit in water or anything.

mines sitting on three 6x6's in my town i think you only need a permit if you are going to perminatly mount it to the ground.
i just got a garage kit one of those tent things with walls and i was thinkin of buying a bunch of concrete and maken a floor to it but i havent run it by my dad yet but sofar i talked him into runnning power out there and he already picked up the pvc for me just got to wait for the sticken ground to unthall lol

it is off the ground.. theres about 4 in. of rock under it so itll drain.
