My friend is buying a car in NJ, we live in Delaware. When getting the title signed over does a notary have to be present? I know when I got my first car I bought it from Pa we had it notarized but I'm not sure if Nj is that way too. Thanks in advance.

yeah same here, they just have to sign it. youll have to pay sales tax when you get the title transfered at the DMV i believe. if theyre nice theyll put that the car was like 500 bucks so you dont have to pay much

I bought my '87 for a $1.00
I even remembered to bring the $.06 with me to the DMV when I had it titled.

I don't know if sales tax will apply since delaware doesn't have it. I'm not worried either way cause I'm not the one buying it. Thanks for the info.

all you really need is the buyer and seller to sign the title with the noted information. if you wanna make sure that everything is nice adn spiffy for your dmv it would also be a good idea to write out a bill of sale type thing that both of you can sign as well.
you don't need a notary in jersey and our sales tax won't apply as long as you say you took delivery of the car our of state.

We picked it up today, 180 miles each way. It was worth it tho, gives us something new to work on plus it sounds wicked.
