the joke is more about the thought that ty, matt, and phil are gonna try to put together a car on a collective budget of $0.01. they also seem to believe that with no competitive racing experience between the lot fo them they will instantly win first shot out of teh box.

Allow me to translate.
What they do not understand is why certain rules are brought up for this event, namely, the insurance and registration required to race, as well as the need for full carpet and a passenger seat. The three of the guys are not concearned about passing tech inspection, they will stick to the requirements for that, but why can't they put a car together, trailer it on down to island, and run it, just as everyone else on Islands saturday and sunday runs and test and tunes can? Why does it have to be different this time?
My point:
I understand that rules are rules, and that's all fine and good. Now i am making a suggestion: Why can't there be a separate class for those of us on the boards, with an F body, who do not have a full carpet or passenger seat? It would be so simple. Why do I ask? Because people like, say for instance, Craig, can't race without his passenger seat now. And well hell, that blows. So if he puts it back in? Fine, but now he just added more weight, and thus a slower time. After all, you guys are freaks about weight reduction, aren't you? (no offense intended)
All they are asking for is a separate class. I understand that these rules are made so that more people can run, but in reality, when a lot of the guys have taken out passenger seats and carpets, well, that just kind of cuts down on the pariticipants, doesn't it a bit?
This is not a ******** post, this is striaght forward. Problem, suggestion, and example to back it up. Do you need more? Or am I not clear enough?

Rules do 2 things. They keep things competive and they keep everybody safe. Having a car that runs on 3 wires with junkyard parts seems a tad more dangerous than a street legal car missing carpet and a passenger seat. Or am I missing something here? What is the competition we're talking about here and where are the rules because right now I'm scratching my head trying to understand.

liz, i don't know how to get it through to phil, matt, or ty that this isn't a test adn tune. these are competitive classes. to have competiton and keep it fair to all involved you need rules.
if they are interested in diving into competition and makign anything worth whiel happen they really need to look further into competition than jsut saying they want to be in one.

Sounds like things are actually rolling together into something tangible.
What extension housing do you have on the th350? If you want to use a stock 3rd gen driveshaft you'll need to use the 9". If you have access to a driveshaft shop then ignore me :) .
Just curious, why the poncho motor? You could sell it and do a homebrew junkyard wars style 350... then the trans wouldn't bolt up, hmm... nevermind, I'm just interested so keep the updates coming.

Yeah, my car is one of the quietest thirdgens as far as rattles but the floor pan is rotting out. I also added a stereo and the car's weight was only 3550 with me, that was with a/c and beefy suspension upgrades. The only weight reduction I had done to my car at the time was a hollow sway bar up front. Everything else I did added weight. Now's a different story.
Anyways, I'd still go for an earlier thirdgen because it'll be closer to the 25yr "classic". I've always seen a thirdgens in the j-yards when I've gone. I need to make a trip again to see the new stock. 2 years ago I found an awesome roller thirdgen. It was a firebird with 6-point cage and a Ford 12-bolt minus carrier but had axles and c-clip eliminators all intact. If I had room for it I'd have bought it, oh well.
How much are you guys looking to spend on the roller car? And do you need a clean title or is a salvage yard title cool? Do you even need a title if it's a track only car?

it isn't impossible, but he would be adding two tons of work and a bunch of safety equipoment to teh car. to move teh motor back you would have to cuyt the fire wall and modify it extensively. teh second he cuts teh firewall the car will be required to have a roll bar, 5pt harnesses, and a fire jacket according to nhra rules.
basically teh easy and safer way to do things is to put an hour into ordering a driveshaft instead of two weeks into modding teh car and shopping for safety equipment.

That was WAY more complicated than just paying the $20 for the correct length tail shaft extension ;) .
Liz, truck = lots of room, fiero = no room, thirdgen = no room between engine and firewall. Plenty of room width wise and infront of the motor but I'll be damned if you can move the engine 3 inchs towards the firewall. I've got a picture of me using a standard wrench SITTING on my old engine unbolting it from the trans. Tim remembers, it's a tight fit back there! Now the redneck in me would expect somebody else here to say "**** it, we'll move dat dear rear forward and bang the tire well a little... ah **** dat too, let's just rake her race car style like."  BTW, I think I found my old 86 SC that you could have for $50. The kid I sold it too drove it for a couple years and it's been sitting at his place with no plans. He wants to get rid of it, let me know if you need me to look into it further.
