View Full Version : One or Two Cutouts?

I was thinking about getting the QTP exhaust cutouts for the car. Should I get one cutout right before the cat (where its one tube) or two while its still "dual" exhaust. Heres a diagram of my setup currently. Would I be better off putting them at the pink or one at the yellow?

I just put my glasses on and the pic was still blurry. One cut out is fine like they say...

if you have headers-2....no headers-1

i would go for one. the cost and ease of packaging it is better. also, there are not a lot of tright spots on teh driver's side to put it and have it still be easy to reach if you ned to get to it.

i have headman shorty headers and 1 cutout right before the cat, trust me, i loooove having the car obnoxiously loud but it even gets to be to much for me sometimes lol. when its capped i have a high flow 3in cat and a 3 inch hooker catback. even sounds mean as hell capped

I was thinking about this same thing myself a lil while ago.....I figured that the yellow is probably better.

The reason i figured that is cuz the reason that true dual exhausts make more power is not only cuz of the increased volume the separate pipes can flow, but that the X or H intersections they make at some point down the line "equalize" the presures coming from each header collectors. With that yellow section after the Y section those presures would be equalised by that point....

But there is still the issue of the tons of track cars that have their exhaust running right out of either header into the atmosphere, and I would assume that they're doin it that way cuz it works and more than likely know more than me. (like this: http://paracing.com/images/img_5384_800.jpg?osCAdminID=e1d34c1e719f3a82d503be 295dad3f69 )

I still say yellow though Â*

I see alot of people agree with the cut-outs before the cat. Â*But I dont see substancial evidence that it does anything with a y-pipe. Â*

I once ran my old Trans Am, with an open Y-pipe and I lost MPH at englishtown over a full exhaust. Holly Flowtech Mid-Length headers, Flowtech 2.5" Mander-bent Y-pipe, test pipe, 2.5 Flowmaster Cat-back.

Exhaust Leak- 15.5 @ 88mph
Open Y-pipe - 15.3 @ 85mph
Full Sealed Exhaust - 14.9 @ 91mph

Now I have seen a few cars with cut-outs that have gained 5rwhp over the stock exhaust on a dyno (RJ 2001OrangeSS) So I really dont know what is best. Â*The only reason I would ever run a cut-out is for show.

Alex, were those runs all on the same night? If not, weather was prolly a factor in that.

i have edlebrock shorty headers, cutout inplace of the cat, and hooker catback...

my car runs better with the exhaust closed... but it runs even better if the cutout is closed on the line and i open it once im moving...

Im not doing it for power (with 305 TBI im not doing ANYTHING for power). Its just for show and annoying people.
