So what did I pass? Ahaha Yes, I realized I needed my car inspected PAST the last minute... I planned on selling, but don't think it would sell with an outdated inspection... I "dont have my hookups" so I had to take it to the DMVIS. There was no line, so as soon as I pulled up I was right in the lane. Had a cpl employees giving me the "You already failed" look... A Young chinese kid asked me to remove all my valuables and step out of the car. So I walked about 50 feet to the waiting area. Within 5 minutes, a fat guy was under my car, another kid was under the passenger door side, and the chinese kid was in my car revving it really high. NOISE POLLUTION FAILED. So they try to raise my headlights and it wasnt working (but the trick is to hold the switch inbetween on and off so that it comes up then press it in). HEADLIGHTS FAILED. After a couple other tests that I passed, it came up to the brakes. They drove it about 10 ft and hit breaks dead on. I got the sheet that says I have NO REAR BALANCE, and that my REAR BRAKES WERE GONE. When the chinese kid was looking on the computer, hes laughing with another guy and was like WHOAHOHOHOH... BRAKE TEST HORRIBLY FAILED. Last test was the gas cap. FAILED. He asked me to move my car up while he was retrieving the final results, so I quickly put my headlights up so that maybe he can remove that from the list. So he walks up to me and I said "So, how many did I fail for?" And he said "Well not alot, your rear brakes are GONE. your head...... lights......... are up now.....??" Then he quickly said "Get those fixed properly. Your gas cap is leaking pressure, and your brake pedal needs the rubber wrap on it. Oh and by the way, no cherry bombs during inspection. You can have them put on after inspection, but not during it"

Car doesnt have cherry bombs, just a high flow cat and vortex exhaust :-D

So, anybody got any clues as to where I can take this car to, to have the brakes/gas cap done?

you could just go to an auto parts store for the gas cap. Brakes I would just do myself.

Sounds like the past 3 visits I made.
I too failed for the rear bias, headlights, AND stupid brake pedal pad. Only they went all out on me and failed me for not having an "inspection cover" over my torque converter and then failed me for the duct tape holding the rest of the paint on my front bumper. I took it off and they still failed me so no pass until body gets fixed or I get a car bra.... but it's better... topless, lol. I hope somebody gets that because it's parallel with another thread.
As for the exhaust, I didn't know they even checked for that. When they pulled my car into line and reved it the building shook, but not from the noise, just from the power, muhaha. If they ever "pop" my hood I'm in deep **** because there only thing still emissions that's left is the TBI.
Let me know how you get through with the rear bias because that's something I'm still working on.

That sucks, I got thrown into the DMV circlejerk a few months ago. First I failed for a cracked side mirror (barely cracked), and emissions. I get a new mirror, do plugs cap rotor pcv EGR air filter o2 sensor etc etc. and I go back, oh, I'm missing the receipt for one thing? So I'm like can't you just ignore that I checked off o2 sensor on the sheet, or a mistake, because its not like they can tell if I changed it or not. He gets insulted, and tells me to backup and leave and comeback with a receipt. Few days later I buy another o2, have receipt, OH- I'm past my inspection date. The guy gets excited and says FULL REINSPECTION. This is where they are ********. Two of them like vultures all over the car. My steering wheel was beat up and they failed me for cracked steering wheel (but the paper didn't say wheel), I had a new one just didn't put it on yet. No big deal. And they failed me for EXPOSED FLYWHEEL, no cover. Once they saw flywheel explosed with their little mirrors, they didn't even test anything else, no brakes, no emissions, brought it right to the end. And that's a 48-hour fail, which means I have to take off work and bust my ass around to find a damn cover. I get it fixed and come back, I get some lady, she's totally confused at what the steering thing was because it didn't say wheel on it, but they verbally told me wheel. So I spent 10 minutes explaining to her and 3 other people that the guys over on the other side were just being ******** to the kid with the trans am and forgot to type wheel. They finally believe me and did the tests, I passed everything, I was so surprised.

It's tough to tell when you're gonna get a jerk or someone that likes having a job. Â*When I took my supercharged 93 Indy Pace Car through inspection, the kid was psyched to take it through. Â*But when they put it on the roller machine to check emissions, the whole building roared when they revved it up(thanks to the Flowmaster and 3" cat. Â*But it passed everything(emission barely passed by .003) and I was good to go. Â*My old 87 4Runner turbo truck had a bad turbo that wouldn't hold boost and I thought it was running rich because of that, it passed easily.

Red 1992 Firebird L03 in 2001

Failed - Gas Cap, Laminated insurance card, and thirdbrake light was out
-The insurance card I laminated when i was bored at work cause it was getting crumpled in my center console ... guess i wasnt allowed.
-Brake light was good, just wiggled the wire and it was fine.
-Got a extra gas cap off the camaro in my yard, went back and wanted a receipt. I was screaming .. "WHY DON'T YOU CHECK THE ****ING GAS CAP, WHO GIVES A **** IF THEIR IS A RECEIPT OR NOT" Obviously the state wants a recepit for a 6 dolalr gas cap when the one i had was fine.

2001 Ford Ranger in 2003
-Brake light, of course.

1996 trans am in 2004
-Left rear shock or something. Whatever .... went to a buddya nd got it passed. Hate the damn state inspections ....

My last resort is getting a girl to take my car in for inspection.
Not that I would do this but wouldn't it be funny to do a hidden camera with my car inspection. First have me take it through with it failing, then the next day, with nothing being touched, have a girl take it through and see if it passes. 60-minutes would LOVE the story. I'd try it with a few other cars. The reason I won't do this is because it'll only come back to bite me in the ass since it's a state inspection, they get screwed, everybody gets screwed  .
My Mom took our Grand Marquis through inspection with a visible LARGE crack in the windshield, no rear view mirror (sitting in back seat), head liner falling down in the back, Ford's natoriously smoked/melted headlights, and 5 trouble codes and it passed. The trouble codes were major ones at that, like MAF and oxygen sensors, yet she got it through where as I was laughed at. Can somebody... maybe Bill, explain this at THEIR level because from where I'm standing it's just gone too far. The speed tickets I'll swallow but the inspection harrasement, it's just out of control ever since the commision based fails. Some things I can understand but for heavens sake what does a cracked steering wheel, no rubber brake pedal pad, and no flexplate cover have to do with being street legal? Brakes, okay, headlights, okay, emissions, okay, but you're an ******* when it's the tape on the front bumper... last time I checked bumper stickers were legal... (********)

Hell, My buddys Mazda MX3 had those motorized seat belts, (when you open the door they slid down the dorr towards the dashboard). Well, the drivers side was screwed up witht he wire hanging down off it so we just yanked it to the back position. To use it you had to buckle the lap buckle and then the shoulder buckle.

PASSED!!!

I went down to the DMV on rt. 38 in july. They failed me for a gas cap. I went down the street to the little parts store bought a cap, went back (literally 10 minutes later) went through and they passed me. I went and returned the gas cap...

Bakers Basin failed one of my old 4Runners because the wheels/tires stuck out too much. They said to put some flares on and it would be fine. I went home, put the stock wheels/tires back on and went back and they passed it. Got back home and put the 32's back on and never spent the money on flares.

$80 dollars and a couple of minutes later I got a sticker the old fashion way.

When my Camaro went for inspection, my mom & my sister took my car and they still failed it for the tint.

I've been wondering how my car will fare in the inspection lanes. I plan on taking it to the DMV first, just to see what happens. I'll prolly end up taking it to my dad's station and talking him into "passing" it.

Before anyone asks....he won't break normal inspection rules for friends.

of course i have to give my .02 on DMV and inspection...first off some of you may remember the first car they put through the new system ~4-5 years ago failed...i remember it was a brand new dealer Toyota Camry  anywayz when my 98 S-10 came up for inspection I failed for brake balance, brought it to the dealership they said nothing was wrong and blamed it on the inspection station, brought it to Midus to have them check the alignment...nothing wrong...so brought it back to DMV no changes done and passed  wtf...so ok my wifes 99 accent needed inspection in 01' i brought it there she failed for what? you guessed it brake balance...so what did i do? Took it right around again just through the retest line and it passed...no changes 5 mins later  my new gtp failed for readiness tests(didnt have hptuners license for it yet) cleared the codes and drove on it for about a week and brought it back to them and passed  not a big DMV fan

They failed my '85 Camaro for rear brakes twice, and would have a third time if the guy at the end of the line wasn't a friend of mine....

my car failed for the dumbest stuff, no shift pattern, no clutch pedal pad, tints (the lightest ones u can buy), and low brake reserve. so in a day i made the shift pattern out of tape and little numbers, went back and the guy wanted to fail me because i made it. meanwhile my car does not have a working speedometer, or anything for emission, screwy system they have in jersey.

I want to get a bunch of their failed stickers and on a warm day slap it on every one of the DMV's cars and have a post-it explaining why it failed... some would be like, "um, you failed for parking in the wrong direction", or "you need to get your unobtanium piston return springs replaced". Maybe even a "I just hate you as much as you hate me."
Oh, and why do they flag me over to the truck station EVERY time? I don't mind it except that the brake pads seem to report NO rear brakes (trucks are biased to the rear..hmmm....) but at least I don't have to go through the front shock shimmy :) .
