iono in my opinoon every muscle cars should all be brought back and they should ask the public before putting it out in production so it dont come out like the new chargers Â*:barf:.It Â*would bring evry 1 away from imports if all the fun cars came back but gm, mopar, and ford dont realize this so alwell.

Not true, Camaros and Firebirds didnt sell well. If GM made them cheaper and more appealing to the general public like the Mustang is, they'd get some better sales...instead they concentrated on making it fast and whatnot, which enthusiasts like all of us enjoy, but the average person isnt looking for something like that. And for the record, F-bodys arent muscle cars...

Fbodies DID sell well, but Mustang was more of an upright coupe then the low-slung sports car.
What we love about fbodies is what killed it. It wasnt about performance, cause they deffinatly kicked the Mustangs ass there, it was about comfort.
Will there be a 5th gen? All sources point to yes. What it will be like and how it will turn out is up in the air as we speak.

Skyline isnt the same as it used to be.
nope...it's even better. from what i'm hearing, it'll be AWD (like all the others), and a twin-turbo V6 making somewhere around 400 HP. they're not sure if it'll be released as a Nissan or an Infiniti here in the U.S. If I were Nissan, I'd release it as a Nissan.

F-bodies might have sold "well" in terms of dealer lot time but they didn't sell better than the Mustangs! In 98 Mustang's outsold F-bodies over 3 to 1, rather pathetic considering Mustangs were all Ford's and Chevy WITH Pontiac couldn't even keep it a close race.
The F-body was never a muscle car but it is a modern day muscle car.
f-bodies are at most pony cars...while the 396 camaros were running around all the MUSCLE cars(hemi cuda, 454 chevelle, etc.) were runnin circles around em

they dont know if their using the turbo motor or the v8 out of the infinity trucks..........and it will come as an "infinity gtr" no mention of the name skyline....they have already trademarked that name in austrailia and somewhere else...
oh and if the rumor of a new elcamino is true........im all over it.
07 indeed.
But from what Ive read so far, its gonna be on the same platform as the 07 Impala

Ok...quick run down
Camaro, as of most rumors ,is going to be built off Zeta, GM's new RWD/AWD chassis. Â*
This will NOT be under the Impala as the Impala just got an update. Â*
GTO on its present chassis is said to end in MY06. Â*That is when Holden goes to Zeta cars. Â*
Thing is that GTO might not come back due to chassis complications. Â*There are rumors going around that the Zeta program might be changed for GM NA. Â*
GTO is not a Camaro, and a Camaro is not a GTO. Â*Things are going to be a little clearer in about 5-6 months. Â*
As of now, all cars are locked in up to the MY07. Â*Barring any serious changes at GM, they are ready to go. Â*Camaro could or could not be in this mix, and 2008 could be the year it comes out. Â*
GM's 100th Birthday is in 2008. Â*
GM is also working hard on the new GMT-900 trucks that will raise the bar over Ford, Dodge and Nissan, and the battle will continue. Â*SUV's will be out first, followed by the trucks.
I have put it this way...A Pony car is in the Muscle car family. Â*Pony cars smaller and lighter, and tend to handle better. Â*Muscle cars are mid sized coupes and sedans with big V8 power. Â*
The idea of the "Muscle Car" ended in the 70's. Â*
The name should change, but its good marketing, like "Hemi". Â*
Infinity or Nissan's Skyline has been said to be anything from a turbo VQ35, to twin turbo, to the FX's 4.5 V8. Â*The 5.6 might be too big for the little Nissan, and I mean that in physical size, not displacement. Â*We all know, at least I hope we all know, that OHC engines are MUCH larger then a OHV engines of equal cyl numbers. Â*Who knows and who cares. Â*It will cost out the ass, and why bother? Â*A loaded G35 coupe is over 35k. Â*Now throw in a V8 or a Twin turbo V6 (ever look in that engine bay btw?), and back it up with a 6spd trans that wont blow, a stronger drive line, bigger brakes, different suspension, AWD, and you have yourself a VERY expensive car, probably near 50k. Â*
You could get a Vette with the same hp that would be much faster and handle better, but hey thats me.
Skyline is trademarked by Renault, Nissans parent company I belive. Â*
As far as the Ute coming to the US as an El Camino, its a possiblity now that the FTA was raised on importing trucks from Austrailia. Â*This means that we could get Ute's shipped her much like the GTO. Â*Only that would tripple there production and Holden would be running itself into the ground.
Also, Evo will be made off the Lancer/Caliber platform. Evo exists becaus teh Lancer exists. Mitsu has NO money and the only way the Evo would ever be here is because of teh Lancer.
Caliber is the Neon replacement. Mitsu will share more stuff with Dodge and Chrysler as time goes on. Thats how Mitsu will stay in the US.

F-bodys are pony cars, along with mustangs and Cudas (i think)...they were made to look good, and perform good on road courses and at the strip, whereas muscle cars were just "lets take the lightest big car we have, and drop a huge engine into it"...which is why camaros/firebirds/mustangs/mopar equivalent were used in road racing, and the muscle cars were basically just pavement pounders.

WERD to the wealth of info that is BigAl, but I know they EVO IX is Lancer, but I've read the X will not be a lancer. If the whole lancer platform is being overhauled to be on par with the caliber, than that could be what they mean.

I know for a fact that GM dealers (I am in tight with one up here) have been told to expect 3 new car line ups at the end of 2006, one of which is set for the GTO and one of the others is supposed to be for a smaller, Zeta platform car (same as the new GTO) but information is limited. all the Â*dealer knows is that the platform is going to be an "F" car. I can't imagine GM putting another car in the line up with an F designation that isn't going ot be a new Camaro style car. whether it is called the camro or not has yet to be seen due to complications with GM's canadian branch. Apparently there is an agreement that the camaro and firebird will only be built in Canada if they come back with that name (rumor only, I can find no factual info about this deal). But also there are pictures of 2 new cars being tested in Australia by Holden. I'll see if I can get copies. They are both low slung 2 door coupes. The emblems on the back simply said "SS" and "WS6". Â*Now if that isn't a big hint I don't know what is. In fact I would almost put money on that being their new names with the attraction people seem to have for the alphabet soup cars nowadays. Also they are rumored to be testing a BRAND NEW engine in them for a mid level car. It is apparently a turbo V-6 pushing 385HP so you would have at least 3 engine choices, Base V6 ( camaro/firebird), turbo V6 (Z28, Formula), LS2 and maybe even the LS7 (SS and Trans-Am). Of course I am sure GM has tested many cars they never build, so let's cross our fingers. Also look for the new El-Camino in 06 imported by Holden.

There was an agreement made when the 4th gens came out that any car called Camaro/Firebird would be built at the plant in St. Therese, but GM tore that plant down last year :D
And for the record, and new Camaro or Firebird will not be an "F" car...it will be on a new platform, even though it may resemble the F-bodies of the past.

The agreement was made back in 1987 that Ste.Therese would have exculsive rights to the Camaro and Firebird build as long as Ste.Therese was there. It was extended again back in the 90's, to 2005. But, as of March of last year....guess what happend to Ste.Therese?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/BigAlZ/ste.jpg
All the jobs that were taken away were added to the Oshawa plants, as well more jobs were added and GM put tons of money in local colleges, CAW scholorships, and updated the other Canadian plants.
As for these "SS" and "WS6" pictures, I have personaly never seen them. I have seen misshapen Holden cars that look a little odd and poorly put together, and it was LHD, but never have I see thoes pictures.
And there is a very small chance that the Twin Turbo 3.6 will make it into a Camaro, or that SS will be top performance model.
Engine's will go something like this...
3.9 VVt making 240-260hp
5.3 V8 making 320hp
6.0 making 390hp
6.2 making 430-450 range.
As for what the "dealer" said, I would take that with a grain of salt. LS7 will never make it into a Camaro.

WTF, why can't GM just stop naming the new cars with old names? I don't like it, never did, never will.
The Camaro isn't dead, it's just not produced anymore. The Mini was the same way and honestly, I'd have more respect for BMW and the new Mini if it wasn't a "Mini" and instead some other name. It's insulting that people can't come up with creative names for the nice cars but have no problem putting names like cobalt, or max on the econo cars. What's wrong with new names? NOTHING. It's insulting from my perspective.
What's the future hold when we are all flying around in a "Camaro" bah, it's stupid. If a production run is killed then let the name die with it. I don't even like how they called the 94-96 Impala's. Why couldn't they still be a Caprice but a Caprice SS or Caprice Z30?
BigAls87Z28
03-16-2005, 01:02 AM
Well, some agree with you Jon, but most people are downright pissed that GM isnt playing the name game.
People are pissed at GM for letting such great names as Grand Am, Century, Regal, Cavi, Bonnie, and then totaly bringing in Alphanumeric names like CTS, STS, SRX, DTS, and G6. Bringing in new names like Luceren, LaCrosse, and Cobalt.
Its just one of many things GM has to take into consideration. Will people hate on the car by the name? I mean, look at the GTO. It befits the GTO name IMO. But to others, no scoops, no tripple carb, not a GTO.
As for remembering....eh, its not that hard. And that is just the tip of the ice burg. There is so much going on right now, that it makes my head spin. GM wants to do so much, but are losing so much ground.

bringing this thread back for a little....
new rumors going around that GM cancelled the Zeta platform here in North America :( found this over on ls1gto.com
General Motors confirmed Friday that it has stopped development on vehicles being designed for a new rear-wheel-drive platform in the North American market.
Sources said the move is not related to financial woes and the company's projected loss of $850 million for this year. They said the decision to stop developing cars on the platform, code-named Zeta, was made.
Zeta was believed to be the platform GM was going to use for the next-generation Pontiac GTO as well as possibly a pair of new Buick offerings, the Velite sedan and convertible, and maybe a midsize, performance Chevrolet sedan.
now this doesn't necessarily mean that the camaro will be on hold for longer, but it does put a damper on things.
