In 1958, the Impala was the top level trim on the Bel Air.
In 1959, it became it's own car. This went on for years as GM used names to separate trims. I believe we went over this.
Same for Caprice and Malibu, but Bill already said Malibu.

Difference is I change my tune between cars, but Nasty is just a **** to be a **** so he can **** over threads like this. You ******** do it as a joke, but Nasty does it because he thinks his posts keep me awake at night.

None of this car is "boring", but it's not an exotic supercar, an I guess that's what Nasty sees when he looks at that white Lumina SS he always posts. That thing is a mayo sandwich on two slices of wonder bread with the crust cut off, served with a glass of milk bland, but he has the balls to call the SS "boring"?

It's cute.

Anti_Rice_Guy 03-05-2013 10:09 AM

Actually I would say that this is one of the few threads that Nasty isn't being a troll and just spouting his thoughts, much like you are. You people argue like looks are facts.

We could tell by the tail lights :-P

At least it's not a convertible, right Nick?

It could look like a supercar but then I'm sure people would bitch that it's not affordable.

M5 taste on an Aveo budget.

I'm actually excited to see what these things will look like when there's an aftermarket for them & enthusiasts start playing with the aesthetics.

I see a lot of G8 still here.

I didn't know that. You and I had not been over that

Not sure that is the same as this. In your examples the impala and chevelle were new terms/names applied to cars with established names. This car has no name. And SS is a well documented performance/option package moniker. SS has been used for over 50 years and has always been a suffix – Impala SS, Camaro SS, etc.

The 2014 SS. Sounds odd to me no matter how you slice it. Honestly sounds like they ran out of ideas and just said **** it.

That looks really nice as a Holden but that picture of the Chevy version it looks like a rental car lumina!

sweetbmxrider 03-05-2013 12:37 PM

So would you guys with the name beef rather have the cruze called a nova? Like dodge did with the "dart"?

BonzoHansen 03-05-2013 12:42 PM

I think it needs a name since SS has historically been a suffix and Chevy has no alpha/numeric named cars in the lineup (M5, G8, etc). I'm not sure what your comment relates to. If they called it a nova i'd complain, but that would be a different argument, at least IMO.

They look almost exactly the same though?

Dual tips, shark fin antenna, badge & rims. Those are the only difference my eyes see...

Again, here is the Holden version versus the Chevy version.

I guess I just fail to see how you can like one and not the identical twin?

:?: Remove the badges.

sweetbmxrider 03-05-2013 12:54 PM

Maybe they did it because it looks so docile and like a rental car to most on here. Most people don't know **** about the historical significance of any name for a car. They hear corvette and think of a fast sleek 2 door sports car. Camaro as affordable muscle. Impala is a nice riding family car. So you have this performance sedan that you stick any old name on and it can get lost in the new car world. You throw the "SS" at it and most people will know that an ss is a high performing car, even if it looks like nothing more than a rental car lumina. That's my slightly biased, mostly uneducated midday thought on the topic :)

Mike: I think a brighter, more energetic color and black wheels would really set the car off better. I also can't tell if it has the painted lower side skirts.

Al: Definitely let me know when you get your hands on one. I want to see it first hand please.

BonzoHansen 03-05-2013 01:04 PM

Could have been a <name> SS and not just SS. I dunno, sounds funny to me is all. Kind of like if they just sold a TA and not a Firebird Trans Am or a GT and not a Mustang GT. After hearing a term used one way my whole life hearing it suddenly being used another is just strange, that is all. They've altered the accepted nomenclature

I like it overall and want to see a real one in person.

Mike 03-05-2013 01:15 PM

Could have just called it a commodore. Lol

I was simply referencing that the body lines are better seen with a color such as orange. Your comment regarding gingers was not only highly offensive but speaks to the typical discrimination amongst the younger crowd for those that are different. I would ask that the moderators of this board take notice of this and deliver the appropriate adminstrative action towards you........

Ahhh who am I kidding....lulz
