I was not aware of that, was under the impression this was to be a mass produced regular line up car.

If that's their goal then they will have problems. I was under the impression that this is supposed to be a full sized American sports coupe. Trying to hang with the 5 series crowd and take a bite out of that apple.

Our G8 gets 17 mpg combinded City/Hgwy. Around the city in stop and go it gets 15 and on the Highway best we saw was 25. The LS3 GXP's got even worse gas miles due to not having 4 cylinder cutoff like the G8's with the 6.0. Not sure if the SS will have the LS3 with a 4 cyl cutoff or not.

like i said to what mike posted. if they somehow find a way to offer this car with the LSA, magnetic ride and a six speed as a higher up model with a more aggressive look...then yeah i understand. but since we cant even be sure if this model will even be sold for any longer than the gto and g8 were, im just gonna go by face value and say that right now it just falls a few pumpkins short of the patch.

Slow-V6 03-06-2013 10:22 AM

GM dubbed this car as the Ultimite SS ever made.

The car is coming Fully loaded with all the options unlike the G8's did. I see why people are saying this will be in the 40,000 price range then.

19 inch wheels, Brembo brakes, Bose system, Navigation, ect..

The G8 GT standard like ours has 18 inch wheels, None Brembo brakes, none Bose system, No Navigation and I believe brand new our G8 was around 33,000 back in 2009.

sweetbmxrider 03-06-2013 10:51 AM

This is going to be a real nice car and it won't sell huge. Not with the consumer mindset nowadays. I'm just happy GM has the balls to bring such a car to their lineup. Who even likes that look at me I'm an attention whore styling anyways?

Slow-V6 03-06-2013 10:57 AM

So this car is targeted at the Car enthusiast correct? I think that us being F-body people that we are what GM has targeted as car enthusiast since we are who buys GM performance cars. How many of us will be buying this car then? I am not asking if you had the money you would or that one day I will, I am asking when this thing comes out who will be at the dealership waiting to get there brand new Chevy SS? I wont.. This will be a quick way to see how successfull this car will be or not be. If they cant sell it to us, the people who buy GM V8 performance cars, then I think this car will not sell well..

sweetbmxrider 03-06-2013 11:24 AM

 Yeah, I wonder what the actual target market is? Guys who wanted a vette but ended up with a baby?

Could very well be.

My wife got her G8 because she loved the way it looks. I told her to get the V8 because the V6 was around the same price and it did not have that much better gas miles. The bright side with the G8's V8 is that it tuned to take 87 octane. It gets ****** gas miles but at least it doesnt run on premium. If we had to do it over again we probably would have gotton a Malibu or a Sonata. They get better gas miles then the G8's. Dont get me wrong I love the G8 but getting 250-300 miles per tank is pretty crappy compared to the other cars on the market. The GXP's probably get 200-250 miles per tank.

Between our 4 cars, the T/A, Vette, G8, and Jeep our Vette is the oldest and gets the best gas miles with around 22 combined and 28 on the hgwy.

So are you gonna buy one or no?

What else is a little odd is that this Chevy SS with the 415hp LS3 does 0-60 in around 5.0 seconds while the GXP LS3 415hp did it in 4.6 seconds.

So basically, you should all buy diesel trucks, more hp/tq, better mpg, and a turbo whistle.

I buy what I want to buy. At the time we wanted to buy a G8, now looking back we probably should have purchased a more Fuel efficiant car for my wifes DD.

Are you gonna be buying a SS?

sweetbmxrider 03-06-2013 12:20 PM

I'd love to but I'm in no market for a car.

Do not need another ~20mpg car and I do not need a large sedan, will be looking at the diesel cruze this summer though.

Mike 03-06-2013 02:13 PM

Too small/big at the same time.

Have a Malibu, extended cab sierra, and the Tbss so the family sized needs are handled. And the Tbss handles the averagely fast requirement as well. Any new 4 doors will have 4 wheel drive. And any new cars will have 2 seats

Slow-V6 03-06-2013 05:18 PM

So far none of us GM car enthusiast will be buying this car. If we wont buy it and the car is geared towards us then who will buy it?

Guys who wanted a vette and their wife said no.

sweetbmxrider 03-06-2013 05:40 PM

I'm assuming a demographic far beyond me.

BonzoHansen 03-06-2013 05:46 PM

Big gay al?

Slow-V6 03-06-2013 05:51 PM

i was just going by who gm said the car is geard towards.. i hear the whole vette thing.

this car has 3 major issues for me..

1. not aggresive enough especially with it called SS
2. will be around 40 grand.
3. if its like the GXP will avg 14/20 mpg..

its a nice car but not a car most gm gearheads would want and more importanatly buy.

donnj 03-06-2013 06:10 PM

comes with a big gay al lifesize doll to prop in the passenger seat, squeeze his hand and hes has all cool sayings, like.... "look how cool we are in this sedan, so glad I got you to buy this heap"

BigAls87Z28 03-07-2013 05:33 PM

Low production unit, $40k sports sedan from Chevrolet.
Where is the market for this car? GM's not looking for a big market, but I'm sure they can find 15k people a year to pick up a performance sedan. Look at who bought a G8 here? All have previous GM performance cars and all love GM performance as a whole. Even Nasty wants to buy the car, but only if it had a boring face on it.

GM also likes the fact that G8 GXPs have retained their value, so they realize that the demand for a car like that is still there, enough to sell the few thousand units a years. GM has cars like Cruze, Malibu, and Impala to take up the volume. This is done for S&G.

As for GM billing this as the "Ultimate SS" or a "four-door Corvette", I don't think they ever said anything like that, but please find me the quotes and I'll be more than happy to retract my statement.
