Yeah thats the set that speedspecialty.com used to sell. I was thinking about ordering a set for my Camaro since I threw out the rear seats as well.

This is true, and you mentioned that the brackets are spot welded in? You sure on that?

that is what everyone said on ls1tech. they drill the spot welds and save almost 2 pounds i believe. i though, have not looked myself.

i bought the ones from speed speciality a while back, they are absolute crap, garbage, waste of money, ect. They didnt fit, the covering is crap, i had to take them all apart and rebuild them to get them to work. I just threw them away recently.

Im going to make one out of fiberglass once it gets warmer and i finish my interior panels.

So do you guys really think that the 2 pounds here and 5 pounds their total of 30 pounds(if that) for removing your whole rear seat area JUST FOR WEIGHT and spening money to do it is worth it?
I mean do you really think its going to go faster? Iv been told a good rule of thumb is every 100 pounds = .1 of your 1/4. With that in mind

being that my car is lowered and has larger wheels, it likes to bottom out with weight in the back.
no rear seats = no rear passengers = no bottom out

when i do the cage, and new carpet, im gonna get a large block of memory foam....shave it to fit down into the rear buckets, but be flat with the driveshaft tunnel across the top.. then carpet it like nothing is there, and viola, no seams, not as heavy as wood and screws and whatnot and will look much better

Why bother? you have to start somewhere and every little bit counts. Especially since you aren't giving up much by deleting the rear sits.

lol YEA you know how much weight was saved by stripping the WHOLE car enough to make my crud motor run the time it ran.

Their has to be a better reason for eliminating the rear seats than "you have to start somewhere" & "everybit counts" thats like trying to by a cheese burger for 10 cents. The whole thing is worth the dollar but 1 /10th of one is just not worth wasting my 10 cents HA that was a dumb analogy but you get it!

I on the under hand just started putting my whole interior back together, even got a new carpet shownomercy(but it is lighter than stock)(and I did gut all the heating/air ducts heater core and all that crap from behind the dash its like a cave behind their now)

Better reason:

Getting rid of the rear seats is easier than deleting the a/c, or tearing out the bumper grids. Every weight reduction comes with a price; rear seats are for passengers, and I dont care because the car definitely was not built for 4 people.

Pulling out the rear seats and seatbelts save about 40 lbs. Yeah 100lbs=0.1 1/4 performance, and 40lbs=0.04s. It may not seem like much, but it is the same ratio, and even better if you want to look at gas mileage considering its a DD.

You are building a car from the ground up while Im trying to improve my car based on my own opinions & tolerances. Rear seats~heat, and I am still comfortable in cold weather.

IMO,

Once you have a roll bar, toss them. The rear seats were barely useful anyway. If you don't have a roll bar, keep them in until you are fast enough.

Pull the side covers off the rear wheel wells or the rear "thrunk well" and see if there is eough material so that you can cut a piece of carpet to fill the holes. You can either cut or snap off the seat mounts. Use Carpet glue tape... It's a tape that has glue, you put it under the carpet, then heat it with a hair dryer and the glue will melt and bind the patch to the carpet.

You don't have bumper grids, don't lie.


I think we can knock the brackets off with a hammer and drill for the spot welds. This weekend?

isn't that really dumb to do on a dd? won't insurance not cover the damage too?

I do have bumper grids, the thought crossed my mind though. Yeah it may be a project for this weekend along with the new c/b and ewp.
