indexing to 8.900...whaz dat mean?

79CamaroDiva 04-30-2005 08:52 PM

Well.. it might not seem slow at the top end, my mph should stay around the same (164-165) but right off the line we're throttle stopping it, so it'll go Launch-Coast-Launch again, hopefully the delay box will do its thing and not throw too many curve balls my way. Also gonna be my first time hitting a 4-tenths pro tree (the tree used friday nights is 5-tenths pro, Saturday and Sunday is 5-tenths full) Hopefully ill get some good packages together and can make full runs the rest of the day. We're trying to index the car so I can go super comp racing at a few divisionals and our national open.

Some of the professional classes at National and Divisional events are based off of an 'index' which is essentially like a heads up race with dial-ins, if that makes sense. Everybody is automatically dialed in on the index for the class, Super Comp is 8.90, Super Gas is 9.90.

Essentially what you do is take a faster car, put a throttle stop in it (all electronic, based on time.. if you come tomorrow ill show you) and adjust the throttle stop until you run exactly on the index. The idea is that in a race, the driver who has the best package (based on how far off 8.900 and a perfect reaction time they are) wins. Whats real tough about these classes is that I say 8.900 because you want it perfect down to the thousandths. Its not uncommon to lose by running 8.903 to a 8.902 or so. Like i said, its also based on reaction time, so if I run 8.900, the other person runs 8.908, and say my r/t is .011 to their .002, I lose.

That's just wild!

Never knew the extent of that indexing stuff. Thanks!

Hey diva I'm going to be by myself. Would it be ok if I left some tools and my nitrous bottles were you park you car. I don't want that stuff in my car when I'm racing. Also do you sell 100octane gas. Thanks
Joe

Hey jon let me know if your going for sure I will bring my camara. thanks

79CamaroDiva 04-30-2005 09:46 PM

Yeah, thats no problem at all, i'll save the spot to the left of my trailer for you. When you come in the pits, about 1/2 way down on the right theres a white trailer, a black trailer, and a white trailer. The black one in the middle will probably have a red 67 rs/ss parked in front of it still. Mine is the white trailer on the left of the black one.

The trailer has 104 unleaded gas, though I'm not sure of the price any more. (It WAS 5.50, then went up to 5.75 last season, not sure if it went up again since the rest of gas has skyrocketted)

EDIT: If you want, call my cell when you get there 908 310 3744, if i dont answer I probably couldnt hear it and i'll call you back.
