he agreed to the rules, he was reported as violating the rules by a few people, it was looked into, the rules were enforced. that is how rules are supposed to work, for the benefit of all the members, not just the ones who want to cry about being a victim when they get enforced.

What's wrong with people getting paid for their stuff? If someone is willing to pay, so what? If you were selling your stuff, you'd want fair price, no?

Jared1970Chevelle 03-25-2007 02:53 PM

im saying ebay brought about price inflation... and if people spend 55 dollers on a 2 year used gauge with no sender + the 7 10 or 15 doller shipping i sometimes see...... comparedd to spending 5 dollers more for a brand new one from a parts catalog.... all im sayin.... thats just one example... i can tell you 1000000 more lol...

sbcpower 03-25-2007 04:08 PM

ebay is both good and bad; the prices have gotten rediculous for the most part, ebay might be one of the most expensive places to buy something; but it might also be the cheapest too. the small guys like alot of us are still out there buying/selling/bartering with their parts/cars. i bought my '96 TA 2 years ago w/ every option (other than WS-6) w/ 90k for $5000! in perfect working order! I've seen the same if not similar cars go for upwards of $9500-$10000. Whole front end clip for my '69 $1500 in flawless condition from a guy going to a glass clip.I'm on eBay quite a bit w/ over 500 transactions 100% good feedback :-) but these type of sites are one of the best places to buy/sell f-body parts.

BACK ON TOPIC
I don't think there is anything wrong with selling parts on a site like this; but it does seem like the administration/moderators have laid out a detailed set of terms that we all agreed to. If he is in violation of that I guess something must be done; not because I disagree with the guy selling his stuff, but moreso because the sponsors will most likely get angry. Heck on the other site I'm on you have to have at least 50 non-buying/selling related posts before you can sell something haha. Rules are rules right? Just my .02

baddest434 03-25-2007 05:39 PM

i can see having parts every now and again to sell but if 90% of your post are classified and your not even a supporter well read the writing on the wall.
personally i have no problem with you selling just maybe become more involved with the club other then for njfboa-bay!

johnjzjz 03-25-2007 05:51 PM

i sell on e blows all the time -- almost every thing i have bought is junk -- its the only place you have the market the local paper cant match -- i have sold racing take outs all over the world -- no one local even calls -- so its high because the dollar is weak -- jz

No not so much as that they want to not piss off PAYING sponsors to this website. I know that if I was paying to be a sponsor on here and my business was to get cars, part them out and sell them on here, and some other person was doing the same over and over again taking some of my business I would be a little upsed. Not only that but the admins pay out of pocket to run this site, and letting other people run businesses off something they are paying for is kinda ****** without a little reimbursement.

QFT

Koll 03-25-2007 08:14 PM

Sites dont cost hundreds of dollars to run. I know Ive run them.
The cost of domain and hosting, for a site like this would cost at most, A YEAR around $150.
A site like this could probably get away with only half.

GrandmasterCow 03-25-2007 08:49 PM

That is true, to run a site is just hosting and a domain, but then by having sponsors the admins can raise the money to provide locations for meets and events that we all love attending. i think they should do somethig similiar as LS1tech.com and as a previous poster stated, 50 non-classifieds posting before they can post in classifieds.

baddest434 03-25-2007 08:58 PM

wtf are sponsors for?

NJSPEEDER 03-25-2007 08:59 PM

sorry to burst your bubble koll, but we blow up cheap little servers like that. it is cheap to register a domain name, it is cheap to printou ta few flyers, it is not too expensive to pay for a few reservations here and there, and servers that can support our volume are not terribly expensive, but once you add all that stuff up it is actually a lot of money.
it's not liek we are trying to run this site for a profit, we are jsut trying to run it so that it pays for itself and leaves a few extra bucks to support cool events and activities for our memebrs.
to cover the costs without charging the members for every little thing we do takes advertising sposnors. we can't have people taking advantage of the site for free and expect someone else to pay, that would be a bad business move for any potential sponsor and prevent the club from getting any help.
our charges reflect our position of jsut wanting the club to support itself too. we only charge $25/month or $250 prepaid for a year to provide a ton of benefits for anyone who cares to support us. does $25 a month to advertise sound like too much to ask of someone who parts out about two cars a month worth a few thousnad dollars in parts on each? especially when it is obvious that advertising would provide increased visibility and generate more sales.
believe it or not, many of us do actually support the companies that support the club and sites they participate in before non-sponsoring companies.

johnjzjz 03-25-2007 09:05 PM

being an admid has to blow -- the hours that is required to police the site alone is like another job all unto it self - and if the people doing it can generate a few bucks to off set the time and ( bull ) they in some cases have to put up with - well so be it - nothing is for free all comes with a cost ( time ) and time is age that happens while you planing something else - jz

got that right haha. i've been admin on many sites and run my own hosting company, gets very hectic. i show a lot of respect to Justin and Tim for running this site and taking good care of its members. When i first came here there was like 300, now theres over 1,000! hah

sbcpower 03-25-2007 11:29 PM

true on the sponsers and their purpose; while a domain may not cost much the little things do certainly add up; especially any costs for meets/events. also if the njfboa promotes themselves at any tracks or larger events that would contribute as well to overall costs. not to mention the sponsors provide us, the consumer, with the opportunity to do more product research/comparison at vendors we may have not even known existed. and like stated before, without sponsorship FREE membership may not always be possible. and i'm brand new to the site but am already enjoying the FREE membership. haha 8-)

grandmaster cow- nice call on the ls1tech reference; wasn't sure if we could namedrop on other forum sites like that. NOOB here haha

We were actually doing that for a long time, but then it became clear that we had many members that have been on the site for a year or more and just don't post that much but still had a few things here and there to sell. Currently it is 6 months membership or 50 posts to use the classifieds and it seems to be working fairly well. Hopefully we can continue to avoid similar issues from developing in the future.

sbcpower, staying a free site is very important to Justin and I. neither of us feel it should be necessary to pay just to participate in a web community. As long as things keep heading the way they have been recently we will be able to have the club run efficiently and still keep adding features and events to the club.

there will always be someone that will try to get over. it's a shame that there are pity posts like this one, trying to garner public support as if that will make a difference. rules are there for a reason; while they may be subject to change, crying in your beer ain't gonna help.

ted gerlach 03-27-2007 05:52 PM

i will go back and try to find everypost i have where something was sold on the board and make a donation , thats fair, and when i sell parts on this site i will make more donations as long as you agree if not oh well, as far as posts go i could careless, as far as the parts go if you need them find me.
