also where do you guys go weigh your car? |

damn, you actually have to make a pass?..
|
just worry about getting a car that runs and drives, then worry about getting your license...and once those two are accomplished THEN worry about what the car weighs

i woudl guess that there is at least 200lbs in the average f-body that can vanish without any noticable change in the ride or comfort of the car. you jsut have to know where to look. |

Without cutting out saftey equip line the bumpers and door panel supports. You could still remove allot of weight of unneeded stuff like AC, emmisions, power accessory, ect. Then going with lighter then stock parts; seats, K-member ect. Now this might borderline saftey maybe replacing the stock airbag steering wheel with aftermarket?
I thin the key to resetting the record is going to be in the first 1/8 mile. Big HP or MPH is going to be tuff. there simply comes a point that spinning the engine higher isn't going to make more HP. Where are the rules at? i'd really like to look at them! |
the N/A bolt on stuff is pretty simple. TB, exhaust, water pumps, and tuning are legal to modify. also, any and all weight reduction, drivetrain, and suspension mods are allowable.
with the record where it is now, i can't see why it can't be much faster without doing anything crazy or losing any of the power accesaries the car came with. |
i guess I will have to get an lt1 car, next year and we can go for a record :)

Sorry to butt in guys, but I'm new over here and this thread struck a chord since I am going for this record myself. I have spoken to Shon a few times and there is nothing really special about it, as most others have stated the big thing is weight reduction. I hope to beat the record this fall of maybe next spring since I have to wait for the weather to cooperate and cool off...
My reaceweight is 3190, and it should go down a little more before the fall, plus I still have a little more tweeking to my setup to get in line before then, but it should be fun... |

If I recall a lot of the confirmation is based on vacuum level at idle, I think it needs to be over 18# or more vacuum too. I don't have to worry about that since I know mine motor is all stock... |

 thats what i said last year... finally 1 year later i give in! now look where im at, stock internals as well. granted when i go to the track, theres only a drivers seat, my a pillars, doors and most of my dash inside, but its one of the best free mods out there! and to think, theres 160 more lbs that im taking out for next time! |
i was looking at an LT1 car when i started this thread. still wish i had gotten it, but things didn't work out. i talked to herron about his record and he was pretty cool.
personaly, i think the LT1 bolt on record is a bit soft. with some common sense while doing prep, i can see at least half a second coming off of it without spending a billion dollars or doing anything too nuts. |

there are tons of tricks for the LT1. I've seen some pretty creative engineering. 11.8 does sound a bit high. There used to be a company that made light weight body panels for the 4.1 gen Camaro, but I dont think they are around anymore.
