You guys seem to be doing pretty good.. My own business for 4 years and still have not taken a pay check yet. I don't like posting what I make or dont make. But if you want to live in NJ and you're single you need to pull in 40K a year to live. family of 3-4 100K.

Matter of fact business is so slow here I am looking for a PT job and dusted off my resume and started sending it out.

Jclt12003 07-22-2007 04:48 PM

right now while i'm still in school i work at home depot as a cashier and make 10.75 an hour. Not bad at all i can tell them when i can and can't work, people are cool as hell to work with and i enjoy working there fun times for now.

Thats awesome! Our Foreman rate is about the same as your journeyman rate. When the next raise vote comes up I will make sure to vote!

I work for RS Information Systems as a Computer Operator and I make somewhere in the neighborhood of $30k/yr base. There is plenty of opportunity for OT too.

Playing with a federal government supercomputer is fun :D

Would you like to play a game?

Advice: Don't hack NORAD.

Hey you wage earners, remember to factor the value of your benefits. Healthcare, retirement, etc., all adds up. A $20@hr job with good benes is probably better then a $30 one with none.

Maybe, but not really, a little moeny away now can add up big in 30 years. But the healthcare part is big too. Go try to pay cash for that. Yikes.

Savage_Messiah 07-23-2007 02:17 PM

Vitals, the longer you wait to start investing in your future the longer you'll be working to make up for that lost time. Compound interest is the greatest thing in the world; take full advantage of it

Tsar 07-23-2007 02:29 PM

ohh Genesis health care (peeps that pay my *****) doubles everything that gets taken away from my paycheck i believe, plus there's interest. I just said its to early to think about  doesn't mean nothing is there.

Sorry to hear about your business. I've been at a crossroads with my job; been teaching at the lowest paying district in Bergen County for the last nine years. I thought about quitting and going into business for myself, but after hearing your story I may re-think it. Last year I made somewhere around 50K (between teaching and all the side work I do), and we survived. My wife was out of work last year since we just had a baby girl. I also have a 4-year old boy, a mortgage, plus all the utilities and whatnot. But my wife and I put down a good amount on our house, and bought it six years ago before the prices went insane. The monthly payment on our house is less than what some people pay to rent an apartment in trendy places like Hoboken. You can live on $50K with a family of four, but you certainly won't be spending $10K of it to buy a new motor, taking long expensive vacations, or any other non-necessities. Family is priority numero uno. Now my wife is back to work, so things are looking up. Gotta save $$ now for the additions on our house; need an extra bedroom and a new garage. :)

3rdGenLT1 07-23-2007 05:25 PM

Fast92RS 07-23-2007 05:35 PM

79CamaroDiva 07-23-2007 06:01 PM

I make $14/hr at my full time job at Island on the books, plus $10/hr cash working weekends, $15/hr cash working on Atco's website, plus selling vinyl on the side. I could use more money, but for now im comfortable-ish. Only problem is I am CONSTANTLY working now. Most weeks i'm at the track or working at home about 60 hrs/week.
