Very cool that you found this but I dont think printing it out on regular papaer will cut it at the inspection. At least the statute numbers are staed and you can force them to get a copy AND make them actually measure using the correct methods. Great find man! Where do you find all this?

slasherbarb 08-31-2007 01:56 PM

the same exact thing happened to me...in my BERETTA! i even knew the guy that failed me...he say the chrome tip from the flowmaster exhaust and he said that it was modified and therefore illegal...went to my mechanic with the story and he almost died laughing...

now, remember, , those are the federal guidelines, which no one really pays attention to because they all think they have the magic number. in NJ it's 95, regardless of the car. and they have to prove it with an SAE test in order to fail you. it's not this subjective 'ear of the inspector' anymore.

as for not accepting a printout from the internet, that's why i included the statute numbers. what do they want, a copy from a lawbook? tell them to take their *** down to the law library, then. there's an extensive one in echelon, right by the mall.

If you have to go through inspection, dumps will fail you.

transamkid 09-02-2007 09:35 AM

i thought it was as long as they were like a ft. from the nearest window that opens, which just means a foot behind the doors. and mine are afak. and i have a few places to go to inspection, besides the dmv

it's a shame that it's come to this, but if you have a modified car then you're best bet is to take it to your uncle's sister's best friend's father's cousin in order to get it passed. as long as they aren't passing cars that are unsafe or grossly spewing fumes into the atmosphere, then i have to say that i agree with it.

it's either that or never, ever modify your car. or, modify it, but then you can't drive it on the street. that little inspection sticker on the windshield means so much to the cops around here that i wouldn't even think about driving without one. they actually set up in a small town close to me, on the state highway (route 9) and check your sticker as you roll by (much slower than the speed limit, natch). all in the name of revenue generation.

ar0ck 09-02-2007 01:05 PM

They have a "Inspection Sticker Task Force" in my area. They've been trying to crack down on illegal stickers in the past couple years because thats what everyone is doing these days!

transamkid 09-02-2007 01:15 PM

i think im just going to go for historic or go for the collector vehicle thing, anyone know how to do it?

Been there and done that last May as I tried to explain to Demonicbird last month on here..
If the inspection station doesnt have a d.b. meter they can not fail you because they have no proof or evidence of your exhaust d.b. level..
My car has a cam/heads QTP headers and Loudmouth 1 and they failed me..
I printed that out and after 2 minutes of debate with the inspection station manager they passed me through with a sticker because the station didnt even have a d.b. meter...
