i vote for leaving the y pipe and catback off. my ears are still bleeding because i was half under the car when u started it |
ok.. good news bad news
good news. y-pipe went on and car was awesome. bad news. On the way to the summerset patriots game the driver side header gasket blew out. so now my question.. where can i get gaskets? do i have to order them? i need them pretty quickly. ALso, can i just unbolt the header, slip out the old gasket and slide in the new one? |
Well.... I don't know v8 header gaskets... but on my v6 I could just loosen the bolts, slide the gasket out and slide a new one in.
I hope that helps a bit |
how the hell did you blow out a gasket? and yea you can just unbolt it and slip the new gasket in
|
it probably wasn't on correctly when you installed it. loosen it, slip in a new one.
ps- gm header gaskets are the best. just go to a dealer |
just for the record i did not.. i repeat.. i DID NOT install the passanger side header and gasket. that was done when i wasnt there.
|
get the aluminum ones and some lockin header bolts. when i ahd the headers on my 83, every oil change i had to retighten the bolts
|
On my 96 SS I blew out a gasket and had to disconnect the y-pipe again to get the header to line back up properly after putting in the new gasket. If you're lucky you can just unbolt it and slide the old one out and new one in but be prepared to loosen everything back up if the header bolts don't go straight back in.

 i didnt put the gasket on tho.. just got the beyotch up where it should be
|
What they said.....hit up the dealer, get gaskets, hope for the best....

gaskets went out on me because some of the bolts weren't tight enough. They would work their way loose. Picked up some OE gaskets and got a proper bolt set (hooker bolts sucked) and monkey tightened them. No leaks since. Good luck.
